Local pro shop guys

I have a question for you. Does it seem to be normal practice to get pissed if a person who bowls at your center buys a USED ball online, and then asks you to plug and drill the thumb on it? NOT FOR FREE, but FOR RETAIL.

I agree, if the guy had done some work to sell me a ball, I would buy it from him! But, when I asked could he get me a blue pulse ball and he said not unless theres one on the house ball rack. What can you say, I think I'm just going to give my money to someone else from now on, come on, 2 weeks to get a ball worked on?  AND THEN IT IS WRONG. Must be MY fault.

Another thing, if the guy had just been a little less pissy about it, I was going to get him to order me a couple of bottles of different surface preps. I think Buddies may be getting another order from me.

My ex-ball driller got a little testy with me a while ago.
I was accumulating a lot of equipment - and he told my husband "She has too many f...ing bowling balls now!" Hubby's reply was "and you drilled 'em all, too - didn't you?"
Then he and I got into it - turns out he didn't like doing the actual "work" of plugging and drilling - he wanted to make the money on the price of the ball and a virgin drill.
That's the biggest reason he's my "ex" ball driller...

I still haven't run into a driller who is in it for the humanitarian good... greed is the driving force of men, and ball drillers make money on blank drilled equipment out the door, plain and simple.

My driller doesn't mind too much when I bring stuff in, especially just when it is a plug and redrill, since every 6 months I buy 1 blank ball from him. last time I paid 150 for a saw blade, Not a horrific rip off, and it saves all the hastle of him getting pissed over bringing in other equipment.

Not around here.  They take their business as they can get it.

I would think that it doesnt matter, becasue its $$$$ in their pocket.  If they do adopt that policy, i can see them losing alot of business.

Being that drillers are not stupid, they know that online prices beat the pants off of theirs usually.  That is why they charge a good deal for walk in drilling on equipment, but hey... they still get paid for punching that ball up.

hey plugging and redrilling pays my rent, it's a huge amount of profit, it's just more time consuming.

I am just a customer - but buying used balls and having them plugged and re-drilled is a common practice for me. I never had problems with this. Surely, this doesn't generate that much sales like a new ball would do. But my local pro knows what good service is, and that only a satisfied customer will 1) come back for more and 2) will tell others about his good service.

In my short bowling career, I had already 8 balls redrilled, only 1 new so far. But my pro always supported me with the used stuff, because I told him that I'd like to experiment with different coverstocks and manufacturers before buying a NIB ball which will fit my game well.

My pro shop guy is GREAT..

I have never had an issue with taking internet balls for him to drill up for me or take him balls to plug and redrill. He is there to make money and does so by doing what it takes.. I would say between me and user g_thing, he has drilled up (new and used) about 75 balls for us the past 1 1/2 years.. We also send him alot of business so he takes care of us as far as pricing goes..

The bottom line is this.. if your pro shop guy gives you a hard time about drilling a ball bought off the net OR plugging and redrilling a used ball, tell him to go fly a kite and find someone else that appreciates your business..

If you came and pumped them for information on what ball to buy for an hour and then go online and get it, yeah they might get pissy.

Otherwise no problem.

Well, the driller in question always seemed fine. When I walked in with a XXX he was excited (mostly because I let him throw it). But, when I ask for work to be done then it takes forever, and he gets his attitude. I don't think he'll be drilling anything else for me. I drive right past another bowling center to go to his, think I'll just save some fuel and stop.

I get so much stuff done with my guy that I can drop off a ball for a total plug and redrill and its ready in 2 days, maybe 3 if he plugs the weighthole..

He also does great plugwork at a great price.. He is not out to screw anyone, just give good customer service and that is whats lacking in those shops that moan and groan about drilling internet balls.. Like I said before, he does what he has to do to make a living..

As for the specs and such, I would never blame him for the way the ball did react or didn't react because of the specs, thats not his fault. All he has to do is drill the ball..

The pro shop guys can moan and groan all they want, but one thing is for sure.  The internet pro ships are not going away.  Might as well except it and make the best out of it.
