Lock-in ? OR Relaxed - Hit ??
« on: July 13, 2003, 11:17:47 PM »
Hey all,...approach / release question for everyone:

Do you lock your wrist in position during your approach and keep it there thru the release OR, do you get a general starting position, have a loose wrist on the backswing, and hit the ball at release ? OR do you do something else ??

Any and all is welcome........(curiosity question is all)

Thanks........

I use a RevsII.

Can't get much more locked in than that

Depends on the condition.
Usually, I try to keep mine locked and straight.
Sometimes, it's cocked and straight.
But I don't try to do anything with the WRIST at release - that's just asking for inconsistency.

I think Jeff is asking WHEN do you lock your wrist.  Say you cup your wrist, do you cup it right away and keep it that way through the swing?  Or do you cup it just before you release the ball.

Yes, That is what I'm asking......is it locked during approach, or right at release ? Do you hit the ball, or is your hand/wrist in the release position all the way thru, part of the way thru, etc, etc.......

Jeff,

My username says it all.  I set up with my fingers in and thumb out on my right hand.  I rest the bulk of the ball weight in my left hand.  As I walk to the foul line, my left hand stays on the ball while cupping into my right wrist throughout the backswing, and then the left hand comes off just before release generating in the ball park of 500 rpm (rated 540 in Reno approx 5 years ago on the C.A.T.S. system).  So, I guess you could say that my wrist stays cupped through the entire swing.

depends, on a sport shot which demands fluid and clean release i jsut let it come off free and easy, on big swing shots i'll cock and just rip the cover off of it out.

But do you keep it cocked thru out the whole approach or do you HIT it at release ?

i keep it cocked because i have a bad tendency for my wrist to turn in my backswing, its a checkpoint for me, may not work for other people, but a must for me to be sure i dont turn over the ball. long free armswing, cocked wrist, and just keep your arm long, its where revs are generated, combined with a good knee bend and timing.

Jeffrevs,

It varies with the condition. Normally though I keep the wrist straight and relaxed through the whole shot. When I need to summon one or two extra revs I cup the wrist from the start and keep it that through the shot.
