Lol, desperation from a bowling alley, a funny memory
« on: July 18, 2003, 10:29:53 AM »
The time has come this year for our annual Top Ten, as I'm sure nearly all of you have heard me say.  It gave me a really funny memory.  It was at AMF Meadow Lanes, a house with EXCELLENT lanes, (not much else, lol, but the lanes are beautiful) but not a very popular house in the least.  Top Ten moves every year, and cycles throughout the five main houses in the city.  Anyway, to all the qualifiers, the center sends out 10 free games apiece so that if bowler don't bowl at that house regularly, or have leagues there, they can get an idea of how the lanes play before the tournament.  When we received our congratulatory letters and the free games, my friend and I went there to practice.  To make a long story short, about my 3rd or 4th game, I shot 300.  Nobody else in the house.  Manager gives me a couple free games, which was cool, and it was also my first 300 in practice, not to mention the first one since my first and only sanctioned 300 about 10 months earlier.  Great confidence boost, but this is the funny thing.  There was an article in the paper a few days later that kind of wrapped up summer league happenings before the tournament (they usually have a weekly article in the fall-winter-spring season, but don't in the summer) and in the youth section, my name was in there for the PRACTICE 300 at this house.  Talk about publicity stunts.  It's not a popular house, and it was the site for the tournament last year (like I said), so I guess they felt it was worth something.  I was laughing my balls off.  The manager must have called the guy that wrote the article beforehand, what the heck?  Anything like this ever happen to you?

Forget Kung Fu, I know Ron Bahr!!!

The only difference between youth and adult leagues are that the big boys are allowed to whine.  They're more entertaining anyway.
