Longest consecutive non-opens in a row in your lifetime...
« on: October 04, 2004, 08:53:46 PM »
Can you think back to a time when you were on fire and didn't have any opens for an extended period of time? Maybe it was a tournament that you filled all the frames and had no opens, or maybe for a few weeks in league you had a couple of clean 30's? What's been the longest streak you've had of not opening for a given period of time? Do you remember what you were doing special to make this happen in your bowling?

I think for me the longest I've gone in a tournament without throwing an open has been 70 frames. In terms of league, probably 60 frames. For some reason I can't stay away from the occasional pocket split that is very difficult to pick up, be it the 7-10 or the more common for me 7-9.

I recall a few nights where I would have 24+ frames without an open.  There have been league nights where I had 3 complete games without an open.  In practice I've taken 4 or 5 consecutive games without an open.  I've never really counted a 'streak' though.

My personal best is 67 league frames of keeping it clean.

I think it was 25 or 26 frames.  Two clean games and a miss somewhere in the middle of the third game.

Most I can remember is three straight clean sets in league.  However, I didn't keep track of how many clean I ended with the night before each streak, or how many I started with the night following.

I did bowl an eight-game qualifier for a scratch tournament once without an open frame.  Unfortunately, I missed the cut by three pins.

57 frames in league is the best I've done.  I had a clean night, and the next two games clean the next night.  I whiffed an 8 pin to break the streak.

Never really kept track of streaks, however I had a state tournament that I did not open in (9 games).

Don't know how many for a streak, but I've had many clean series.
I agree, though, that it's tough to be completely clean when the pocket 7-10 can jump up and wreck a night!

The norm for me (until I hit this horrible slump) was 1-2 opens a night - max.

Last season, bowling in two different houses, I strung together 113 frames without an open.  Left I believe a 7-10 split in the pocket.  needless to say I didn't pick it up and the streak was over.

I guess my best streak this season ended at 54 frames, I had a clean 30 on Monday and 2 more clean games in my Tuesday league, it ended in the 5th frame of game three this evening (a 2-7 which I made early in the evening, just slid by the 7 pin by a little bit). So I am a firm believer in a spare ball from now on....
