Longevity of hook-it
« on: June 16, 2003, 05:31:58 PM »
Anyone have ideas on how long the tackiness remains on the ball before it goes away?  Other than it being a very good overall cleaner, I don't think it keeps balls tacky for long.  So, would this also mean putting on hook-it for extra boards when there is alot of oil relatively useless?

I think it would help if you knew you were going to encounter heavier stuff...clean the ball the night before......

I deep clean with Hook it about 2x per month.  Cleaning after every session with NeoTac Liquid Nitro energizer cleaner.......

I do know when I encounter the slick stuff, so I even put some hook it right before I bowl.  The center I bowl in the summer has heavy carrydown from open bowling.

I think you may be approaching the use of Hook-it from the wrong point of view. Its job is not to "keep" the ball tacky. Its job is to clean it; I believe the tackiness is a good side effect but not the primary job of Hook-It. Far too much depends on the ball, how you throw it and the how the ball's surface interacts with the lanes.

You might want to consider doing 3 other things, if you are consistently bowling on heavy oil:
1. Use Doc's Elxir to help protect the ball from absorbing huge amounts of oil, as dull or matte finish balls can easily do. This will help balls last much longer.
2. Use a good clean Micro-fiber towel to wipe off the oil after and before every shot.
3. Clean the ball thoroughly after each league and torunament session.

Neo Tac recommends using Hook-It each game to maintain maximum tackiness on the ball.  But, I'll use it every several sets instead, and I'll wipe down the ball before every shot with a micro-fiber towel.  Also, I keep a good coating of Doc's Elixer on my balls too.
