Lonnie Waliczek joins Motiv
« on: December 31, 2014, 08:08:58 PM »
With talk about the other staff changes happening, Motiv announced today on their Facebook page that Lonnie Waliczek is now a staff member.  I remember him most with Brunswick, though I think he had been a free agent for most of his PBA career.  There were shows with him throwing Storm, Columbia 300 and Ebonite in the past.

You're definitely right on that.  Motiv has been making it on a good amount of shows the past few seasons.

If EBI gets Duke, they'll have a chance to actually be visible.

Actually Shafer's first title in 2000 was with Ebonite.  His other 3 titles along with the 300 game were all with Storm as he signed with them in 2001.  His first show with Storm was the 2001 PBA Orleans Classic out in Vegas.

went back on youtube.  we are both wrong.  first 2 with ebonite.  then signs with storm wins third 3 weeks later.  could not find video of the fourth in latam ny. in the 03-04 season but must be with storm sorry, I was wrong was not trying to upset anyone, just pointing out he had success with this company before.

Lonnie has pretty much been a non-factor in the PBA for the last 10 years.  After he washed out for the wheat on TV he pretty much went Ian Baker Finch.  Not exactly a staff signing to get excited over.

Shafer isn't exactly a needle moving guy either.  Hasn't won in over 10 years and hasn't made a show the last 2.  How much can you realistically pay for those kind of stats.

Who cares?   :)

Of the 3 or 4 that are mentioned in the thread Duke has the best possibilities even as old as he is when the condition is right for him playing that deft touch down and in shot he is very good.

Motiv is doing fine with their no-name staff....financially it makes sense for them.  Storm/RotoGrip/Chrisman have deep pockets.

The PBA/Nascar mantra win on Sunday sell on Monday has been dead for years.

Scott, Belmo sold a ton of UpRoar's. It's still there, just not as it once was.

I'm told at least among the general populace of bowlers that ball sales are regional in nature. Like where I am in the Carolinas you see a lot of people with Motiv equipment. Some would attribute that to staffers like Lee Vanderhoef, Dick Allen, B.J. Moore, and Connor Pickford.

Is that observation about equipment sales being regional accurate or inaccurate?

I'd agree also that it is very regional. I live in Southern Utah and most stuff thrown and carried by the pro shop is Storm/Roto. Ebonite has a bad rep around here, I was the only one throwing track and I'm the only one throwing Columbia right now. A couple guys throwing hammer. A little motiv and 900 global mixed in. Not much Brunswick around either, I have a guru ordered I think I'll be the only guy with Radical
