Look for some opinions on my swing
« on: October 02, 2012, 09:16:56 PM »
So after about 3 months of practice and a lesson with Tony Reyes (R.I.P.) i think i'm finally getting a little better. I would love to know what you guys think. The only think that i can see that is really glaring is my hand at release. I think im coming around it to much which i think causes me to pull it.

I like what i see. Everything is on point. Steps follow what you want to do, great slide, better follow through and knee bend.

Two points, 1. Dont grab thru the ball so hard, if you need to amp up speed, do it with you legs and a higher start position of the ball. It tends to pull you off the ball. As a fellow big man i can sympathize. I have the same problem at times.

2. Make sure that you continue to post the shot till the ball hits the pins. Not so much a problem, but it can lead to falling off. This falls in with #1. If you post then you know where you finish everytime.

Other than that looks really good. Keep up the good work.

Post it on bowlingchat.net-Certified Coaching and let Jim Merrell see it.  You will get a better idea from a professional on what to clean up.

I can tell you a few things like your first crossover step-right to left (poor because of your body size-clear your hip) but Jim's very good at finding the good and the bad.  Good....you find inside leverage.....look at most vids and you see crappy inside leverage.

Keep your shoulder back a little longer. Basically Stand up a little more. less waist bend. It'll keep you from coming around the ball too early.

If you live in California (assuming so since you worked with tony) you need to go work with mark baker.

Swing looks good.  You compensate for the crossover step by drifting left on your 3rd-4th steps, so you pretty much clear you body that way.  The only problem I see is you tendancy to force the swing from the high point on you backswing to the follow through.   This causes you to grab your ball at the bottom, like someone already mentioned, and this will cause you to pull the ball.  Also, if you are pulling the ball a lot, check you backswing to be sure it doesn't get too far away from your body.  Your tempo looks good, just try to relax and let the ball fall from you backswing and just guide it through the follow through.
