Looking at new equipment and need advice
« on: February 17, 2004, 11:13:02 PM »
Hello,

I’m getting back into bowling after a three-year hiatus. There is a lot of new equipment out there now and I’m looking for advice/opinions to help make some decisions. Here is the equipment I use currently.

15lb Blue Hammer – Spare Ball and VERY dry conditions
15lb Sapphire Zone – Medium to light oil (my go-to ball)
16lb Turbo X – Medium to Heavy oil (HUGE backend/hits like a truck)
16lb Piranha/C – Very heavy Oil (massive hook/hits hard but not like the Turbo X)

Out of all of my equipment I use the Turbo X and the Sapphire Zone the most often and they both work well. I’m looking at getting a new ball for Heavy Oil and also a REAL spare ball. I like polished equipment since they give the best backend reaction and I want a spare ball that is going to go straight in ANY condition. Here is some of the new stuff that caught my eye.

New Heavy/Medium Oil Ball
Brunswick Inferno
Brunswick Raging Inferno
Hammer Big Blue Pearl
Storm X-Factor
Roto Grip Apocalypse
Dyno-Thane - The Thing RETURNS

New Spare Ball
Target Zone
White Dot or Blue Dot

These are just to name a few. There is a lot of good-looking stuff out there. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I have heard the Killer Instinct Sanded is an awesome ball if you polish it first... too much ball if you keep the cover the way it comes out of the box.  It'll definately get you noticed too... awesome colors.

One note Bob, the Thing Returns is pearl resin, not particle.

Thanks for all of the replies. I really appreciate it. I used to bowl 20+ games a week and work at a bowling alley so I knew what to buy. But now I only bowl a few games a week and don't get a chance to learn about the changes in equipment anymore.
