I may need a replacement ball
« on: April 03, 2009, 04:54:16 AM »
I've got an original Buzzsaw Silver Diamond (not the re-issue which I disliked), that will leave my hands only when it or I die.  I'm afraid that it's so old it may die before I do.  Do any of you have a suggestion for a replacement ball?
It's PK 18 coverstock, pearl.  I'm looking for a ball to match it as closely as possible - lots of push down lane, big turn on the back.  I'm not intent on sticking with Buzzsaw, just want a ball from any company that would be the equivalent.  Sorry, but I can't find any specs (rg, etc) for it.

I would say maybe  a Morich Mojave or a brunswick Swarm. They use pearlized  PK17 and PK18 respectively

If you want to stick with Lane #1, I would suggest the BuzzBomb/R or a Supernova XP with some polish added to it.

If you're looking just to get that same basic look, you have tons of options. Funny you should mention that you want it to push down long and then get a big move on the back, because I equate Lane #1 balls of that era with being pretty rolly. If the look you like is more angular and/or skid-snap, you can pretty much achieve that with most any medium-oil pearl ball. I like Storm gear when angularity is a paramount concern.

If you really want to stay with the PK18, the Brunswick Swarm has it, but I haven't thrown it so I can't say whether the basic characteristics lean towards roll or skid/snap.

I've seen in other thread that the Cobalt Pearl is long and strong on the backend. If you want to stay with Lane#1,that would be a good choice. If not,JessN16 had it right in that Storm is usually angular with most of their equipment.

JessN16, you said,

and you're right, for the most part.  I've had a lot of Buzzsaws from around then (Pro Purple being another favorite of mine) but my old Silver has one of the biggest back end moves of anything I've ever used.  I tried the re-issue Silver and it was nothing didn't like it at all.  It may be the layout on this one: I got it used and didn't alter it pin over bridge (centered), cg on a line halfway to PAP (line is pin to PAP) - not a layout I'd have thought of offhand, but I love it and intend to use it on whatever I get to replace the Silver..
