When do you call for a re-rack?
« on: October 13, 2009, 11:35:02 PM »
What constitutes a bad rack, i.e. one that lowers your chances to carry?  IMO, the pin that stands out is the three.  If the three pin is slightly off spot to the right, you have a greater chance of putting it in front of the ten.  Personally, I don't re-rack unless I have an 800 going and even then I'd probably just adjust light or heavy.

Is the anything else to look for?  I've seen people re-rack in league and I have no idea what they are seeing.

I bowl in an old house that does have some pinsetting issues. I do occasionally re-rack as do most bowlers in the house but these situations are when pins are grossly offspot. Every other house I go to I don't see this as a problem but they tend to have better maintained or newer equipment so the things that should not be a problem are not a problem.

In league, for missing or fallen pins only.

I look for 10 pins.

Unless a pin is missing or grossly off spot ( at least 2 inches) I don't re-rack.

The funny thing is that most of the re-racks I have seen in league the bowlers doesn't strike anyway.

Years ago, I went to Hoffman estates and bowled the Petersen Classic.  The pin were way off spot.  I asked about reracking the pins and I was told that's the way the rack is.

I thought that was pretty funny..

Unless you are missing a pin, there is no reason to take a re-rack...especially in league. You play the pins as they lie.
