BEST NEW TOY AT EXPO!!!!
« on: July 03, 2010, 03:29:22 AM »
In my opinion, the best new toy I saw at Expo this year is a laser set-up that measures surface texture/roughness for pro shops to be able to show wear of the ball and to promote sanding/resurfaceing for consistant reactions. Saw it demo'd at the Brunswick gathering and at the Jayhawk booth!
COOL!!!

And, by promoting sanding/resurfacing, they also promote wearing your equipment out much faster so you need new equipment at a higher rate.

Cool, yeah probably, but there isn't a manufacturer out there who is trying to help you, they are trying to increase sales.

Not necessarily.  If you think your ball is still at 2000 and the gauge says it's rougher, you might just need a quick touch up instead of a full resurface.  By the time your eyes see obvious wear, it's probably time for a trip to the Haus machine.

Uhm first of all, you are not sanding that much off the ball when you resurface it.
Secondly, resurfacing & sanding does not wear out a bowling ball. If you are planning on using on a volume of oil, you better have a consistant surface and maintain it.

As Ric said, if you go to a pro shop with the right set ups for sanding/resurfaceing VERY LITTLE coverstock is removed!
Side note, Good to see ya Ric! I gotta have 1 of those toys! If nothing else it will eliminate 1 excuse for my poor bowling after the knee replacement! On second thought I might not want that!
As for Striders post, we saw a great change in surface just using a 2000 pad rubbed LIGHTLY on the surface!

I have used a profilometer for the past year. You would be surprised how fast the ball track changes.

Russ,

I am interested in this product. I couldn't justify going to Bowl Expo (too far to travel) But I would assume that there was some kind of introductory price. Can you provide the price, or pm me with more information?

Thanks!

I think that's cool - at last, you get a measure which actually tells you a coverstock "roughness" grade, which allows better educated guesses about ball reaction and surface tuning. Using a 2.000 grit Abralon pad does not necessarily bring out a surface of the same measure.

This Device is scheduled to become available in October.  The retail price could be lower or higher, but we are estimating it at $1650.00  This price is in the same ball park as other pro shop tools such as a Kaufman scale or Rejuvenator.

We are currently taking pre sign ups for this device.  Please PM me if interested.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this device.  We have been developing and designing this one for quite some time and we feel it is the tool pro shops have been missing for years.

Thanks
