PRO SHOPS: Manufacturers, STOP MAKING NEW BALLS!
« on: June 06, 2003, 07:43:49 AM »
They are killing us!  I buy the Threat from Track, 2-4 weeks later, the Thrash comes out!  I am stuck with Threats now because it becomes stale after 2 months.  Storm Came out with the X-factor, the Deuce, and the Reloaded all within 6 months of each other.  The X-Factor was an awesome, ball, the Deuce was a compliment to the X-Factor... why can't they just stick with these 2 balls?  I have 4 of each in stock, I can't sell them!  I have to buy the Reloaded now because everyone wants that one now!  I never sell more than 1 or 2 of a new ball at the regular price!
I am never stocking more than 1 of each new ball that comes out.  I refuse to get stuck with the 1st ball in a line of many.
Dynothane & Rotogrip are doing it right. Ebonite & Hammer is good because they spread them out, but they come out with 15 balls at once.  Brunswick is spread out... too bad there balls aren't selling well in the East.
Why do they have to flood the market?

I agree with jkiser01, Doug, and Hamster.  I am going to start a pro shop club and boycott certain balls.  If no one buys them, then the manufacturer is F-ed!
I can get good deals, but I only buy closeouts now. Who wants a $220 X-factor if you can get an 2 AMF En Fuegos for $150-$175?  Wait 6 months after a ball comes out, I will buy it for $20-$30 cheaper, it's still the same ball, it still a great ball, you can still shoot a 300 with it.
Wait for X-Factor and Deuce Blems!  At half the price, you will have the same core and coverstock, who needs pin and top weight?  We can drill these to do the same thing as a 2-4pin and a 2-4 top weight.
IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!

I'm not a pro shop operator. I am a bargain hunter though. Why should I pony up for the high dollar stuff? I have An all Ebay/ballreviews bag right now. The only undiscontinued ball I'm throwing is a Morich Pioneer and I got that off Ebay for $70. I also roll an Angle tour($55), Usa Gold($43), and use a clear Wolf I bought here used for $30. I also have sitting in my basement several NIB balls from Ebay that could cover any condition. These averaged $50 in cost shipping included!! It is costing me $43 dollars to get a ball drilled up. So most of my stuff was under $100 new. This stuff works great, so why pay $200 for an Inferno? I like new toys but I refuse to pay double the price for the same old technology!!

I am in he same boat as Louie. I buy a lot of stuff from ebay, here, or from the pro shop used. Call me cheap, probably, but then again, I dont mind f I get a ball that was drilled right handed, plug it up and drill it lefty and its brand new to me. If you do a good color match (tough to do with all the mutil-colored balls), you cant see the old plug. Or plug it with the same colors and the grips and to me it lookd as though the ball has more rev to it. I bought a WOW from the pro shop owner for 80 bucks total, when I would have payed about 150-160 for a NIB+shipping+drilling. I took that 80 bucks and just bought a lefty drilled Emerald buzzsaw off of ebay. Will redrill the thumb to fit my span an regrip the fingers and that total will be under 100 bucks again, for a ball that runs about 225 after all is said and done. As far as bowling companies putting out new balls every other week, I agree with everybody, they need to start releasing balls 3 times a year (start of league, mid point, end of league/start of summer league). Only put out 2 or 3 balls covering different conditions (heavy, med, light oil patterns) and be done with it. I am almost positive that with all the bowling ball companies there are, compared to how many bowlers subscribe to the ball of the month club, they would still sell just as many balls if not more. Morich came out with the Hercules probably 3 months ago, my buddy just got a "test" ball from Mo. Didnt get any info really, but it looked to have more backend than the Hercules. Not sure if it has a tweaked core (again) or something new, but the same Versa-tech coverstock (test ball cover was a dark red). Might have a different name, but we will find out soon. Heard it is supposed to come out by the middle-end of summer....just in time for everybody to buy a new ball for the start of league. Minus that smartass remark, Mo does an unbelieveable job with what hes got, and puts out THE best equipment on the market.
