Looking for a new ball
« on: October 02, 2013, 12:45:13 PM »
This is my first post, so I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong section. I am looking for a ball that is a little stronger for when my 811c/t is not finishing strong enough. I would prefer a smooth reacting ball. The main use for this ball would be early on in tournaments. I would also prefer if this ball was from Ebonite corp, but any company will work.

On a side note, can somebody explain to me the difference in the letters in the Track naming system? I know "A" is for an angular reaction, but "C" and "T" seem like they overlap to me.

If you just stick to Track, i'd say the 912T or the 916AT are great options if you really need something stronger than your 811 c/t. The 916AT would be a little stronger on the backend, where the 912T would be smoother and probably more of what you are looking for from the sounds of things.

A - Angular, most skid, most backend reaction
C - Continuous/Control? a little smoother on the back, less skid/flip
T - Traction, strongest covers, smoother reaction overall

Don Coyote, I only buy my balls from the pro shop where I have my stuff drilled. Sorry. Thank you for the offer though.

SVstar34, the 912t would be more of what I am looking for, but I have heard that the really high end Track stuff is not very clean. Is that true?
Is the 916AT still in production?
Thanks for clearing up the system! The "C" and "T" have always had me confused.

Ebonite challenge is a very underrated ball, but strong and smooth, although pivot is stronger I believe
Columbia Oath is a really good ball as well, stronger and very smooth
912t is a beast, but it tends to be earlier than I liked, I couldn't really use it anywhere.

EBI has some good stuff out there for what you are looking for

I will look into all of these. How does the enigma stack up to these?

The Enigma could be right in the wheelhouse.  It is a very heavy rolling ball that keeps the pins nice and low and would definitely be stronger overall than the 811.  It does come out of the box at 1500 so if it isnt clean enough through the front part of the lane, it can be adjusted up to 2000 or 3000.  Even at 3000, which is where I have mine, it still is more of a heavy rolling ball and not angular/flippy at all.
