thumb problem
« on: June 06, 2010, 12:58:23 PM »
When i bowl i squeeze the ball, and i have a callus on the inside of my hand, im a right handed bowler.

The question i have i use a thumb slug, was wondering would it be better for me to not use a thumb slug or change from a smaller span to a longer span for my hand? Can someone help me out this would be great.

Thumb slugs are a personal preference decision.

As for your callus, it is either a pitch issue(mostly likely since you squeeze), a hole size issue and/or a bevel issue that is causing you to rub that spot.

what you can do is stop squeezing that would work great.

You can help it your just choosing not too. I used to squeeze too. Theres not reason to squeeze unless your ball is poorly fit. nothing will fix squeezing except not squeezing. Just because its not the answer you want to hear doesnt make me an as..

Do you use tape? Normally, a thumb hole or slug is drilled with some extra space to allow room for a swelling thumb - and tape, as an adjustment. It could be that the pitch is O.K. but the thumb hole simply too large, and some pieces of white tape could already fix your problem.

Anyway, better have a pro shop check the hole for you, a neutral expert would be best. This would also be the source for tape and some info about how to apply it properly.

The general rule would be if you have calluses or specific pressure points, fitment it not correct.
It might be something as simple as adding tape (in the right locations) or the thumb is not shaped correctly for you.
I would think it will boil down to fitment.  With proper fitment, squeezing will be much less an issue.  Visit a good local pro shop and they should be able to help you with it.

So you chew someone out for posting "simplistic crap" and then end your post saying the same thing. Nice one dude.

I agree with everyone else pretty much, get your fit checked, I would imagine from the position of the callous your span is probably the most likely suspect (probably short rather than long)
