Good Dry Lane Ball
« on: December 01, 2009, 12:51:34 PM »
I currently throw a Storm Hyroad and a Ebonite Big Time as my first ball for med-wet lanes.  I am in dire need of something for dry lanes since the bowling alley I go to thinks it not needed to oil lanes for high school bowling.  As well as Youth Leagues.  Any suggestions on bowling balls would be appreciated but I would also like to know what to look for in a dry lane ball.  Ex. grit finish, differencial...ect.  Also, I normally throw around 13-15 mph so im by no means a speed bowler and I normally try to play a down and in shot but whatever gets a strike works.

Since you're weakest ball is the Hy-Road and that is s true medium oil ball, there are a bunch of balls that cover that range and they can be very different from one another. There are balls for medium-light to medium oil balls, light to medium light oil and dry to light oil balls. In an arsenal, at least 2 balls fit in that range for many people.

Can you better qualify your needs?

For true dry, only a polyester ball will do.
There are now a bunch of urethane, solid and pearl, for light to medium-light and medium-light to medium oil:
VIsionary Ogre urethane
Storm Natural
Seismic Desperado
AMf Hype Urethane.

There are tons of pearl resin and a couple of solid resin for light to medium-light oil:
Tropical Storm
RG Neptune
Ebonite Bash
Lane#1 Chainsaw
Morich Mojave
Brunswick Avalanche Slide
Columbia Jazz
Visionary Blue/Green Centaur
900Global Link
Hammer Razyr
AMF Smoke

What I am wanting is a ball that will not hook hardly any but still had high pin reaction.  Also I am currently throwing a 14 lb ball.  And the lanes im talking about, well heres an example: I would throw the hyroad approx left 10 board(I'm right handed) out to about the 6 board and still hit brooklyn usually.  I just cant seem to get a shot to work on dry lanes so im need a low reaction NONplastic ball if i can.  If I wanted a plastic i would just use my spare ball so please leave those out.

I was looking at the Hammer Vibe, the owner of the proshop at my bowling alley suggested it as a good dry lane ball for the ones he had in stock.
I also found one on http://www.bowling.com/products/hammer-razyr.htm   different color of course but i think it may do the job

I personally found my Green Vibe too strong it is definitely stronger then advertised... I would personally suggest trying to get your hands on an original lane 1 chainsaw... or a storm natural which is a newer urethane ball it is VERY smooth and easy to control...

I agree with King, especially on the Natural. One of the best currently available. I believe the Seismic Desperado will be a great ball from everything I've heard, and can't wait to get one! For TRULY dry lanes, the Lane 1 Starburst XXXL cannot be beat.

There are 4 Hammer Vibes. The Green and the Black (Onyx) are not dry lanes balls and are, in fact, in the same range as your Hy-Road. The Cherry will probably work. The Razyr is notch weaker than a Cherry.

If you want a ball that won't hook at all, you want plastic/polyester.

Not sure what you mean by "that will not hook hardly any but still had high pin reaction." Do you just mean length, by a "high pin reaction"????

Good dry lane drill patterns are more important than the ball itself

I have really good luck with my Roto Grip Neptune.

Very stable ball that I found will not over react.  Good for dry lanes and does have very good pin carry.

Just make sure that your Pro Shop guy knows that you want the ball to work on dry lanes before he drills it.

Is 2nd arrow as deep as you want to get?  You could probably move in to the 3rd arrow and find more oil and have a better ball reaction.
