Looking for info (established bowlers only)
« on: November 04, 2006, 03:22:27 AM »
Ball company is not a big deal.I don`t want comments like this ball is awesome or ebonite rules.Just opinions on balls for medium to light conditions.I throw around 17 mph and I am a tweener /stroker.I struggle with conditions that break down and I don`t have a ball that wiil let me go alittle straighter and not have to cross alot of boards.I have a V2 sanded that is polishied and a V2 Dry that goes too straight even for dry conditions.I have tried a number of different balls over the years and I had no success with any of them. The last one I had confidence in was the Vortex Afterburner, which was about 5-6 years ago.

I have a Storm Fired-UP.
It is drill pin above and between the fingers.
It handles the lighter condition great for me.
I throw around 17.5 mph.
I left in box condition.

for Medium to light, I wouldn't consider the Domination, the Original Paradigm, maybe, but if the conditions border more towards the light condition, it's not the ball you'd want either  (I really like the Paradigm line, but they need some oil).

For light conditions, I'm hearing great things about the straight flush, for Lanemaster.  Make no bones about it though, that is not a ball for oil.  As a tweener/stroker, this ball is designed to play straight up the boards on light oil or fried conditions.

On medium conditions, the Paradigm and Domination would be good choices, but only if the oil is there.

Stat's seem to be similar to mine.  I'm using the DT 44Mag with the pin over the bridge.  Haven't used Ebonite is several years, not sure what is their comparable ball.

One piece of information that would be helpful is knowing how far you are comfortable moving when the lanes break down.  Is it no problem to move 3 boards, 5 or 10?  I know a lot of people that can't move even one board when the lane changes.  This severely limits their ability to play the lane no matter what ball they use or buy.  So I'm curious as to what your comfortzone is for moving.

The two balls you mention are lower RG balls from a company that is known for heavy and fairly early rolling balls.  If they are rolling up too early for you and rolling out at the pins then you might start looking at higher RG balls (Storm and Track, possibly come Columbia) with polished and/or pearl covers.

A little straighter in the front, a little more pop in the back. Check out the BVP Mammoth video on www.brunswickbowling.com/bvp_mammoth I'm pretty sure they compare the entire BVP lineup. Its great!

The roto grip mercury with the right drilling and surface might be the ball for you, it clears the heads great for me and still comes off the dry pretty strong.

The Rampage is one of the best balls I've ever drilled.  I have it set up 5 1/2 pin to pap, above the fingers.  It is perfect for playing the track or moving in and swinging inside to out.

You basically throw the ball the same way I throw it.  If you can find one I would sugest a Track Heat.  I have one that is pin in drill about an inch under the ring finger and the cg kicked out to about 5 o'clock.  The ball is gets great lenght and is pretty strong when it finishes up on the backend.  I would also have to agree with the person on the fired up.  Seems that it would have the same type of reaction that you are looking for as well.  Might even want to check out the splitfire as well.  Anyways hope this helps

For Medium i would go with a Cross fire or Ics from Ebonite

Light i would go with a Tornado Pearl.

All will go long and then turn nicly into the pocket.

Let me suggest a three balls you probably wouldn't normally think about:  (1) The Track Xception.  Strongish medium light ball, but with a little reacta shine, gets through the heads wonderfully and has a great reaction.  It is a little touchy, but in box condition, it will move.  (2) Columbia Wrath.  The current coverstock seems less figgity than the original blends of superflex and the core is one of my favorites for light/medium balls.  (3) Brunswick's Rampage.  I would normally suggest the Punisher for medium to light, but I had a problem with inconsistency with the slightly modified n-Control coverstock --but the Rampage, kept shiny as in box is suprisingly cooperative and strong enough to give you some pop.
