in your opinion, is it worth it?
« on: June 30, 2004, 06:51:05 AM »
Ok, the situation is that Im getting really bored bowling in junior leauges/tournaments. I want to go to adult, but our league director says that I should stay in junior for the "scholarship money". Dont you have to bowl tournaments and stuff to get that? Is it worth stayin in juniors or should I just go to adult?

Well my HS doesnt have bowling anyways so it wouldnt matter much. I REALLY want to do Pennsylvania JBT's, but I have no way to get to them, so since I cant do that, theres no point for me to stay in juniors. At least thats the way I see it.

I don't want this to sound negative towards you. I see a lot of junior bowlers in my area think they are the best and want to compete in adult leagues. For the most part the first year they move up they have a big reality check. They are not able to compete on that same level they thought they could compete on. So they end up hating the adult leagues for the first year or two. Like was brought up earlier talk to your parents about this, also maybe talk to a few people that you respect in your local area see what they think. Being only 16 I would honostly say stay in youth leagues for atleast another season then think about moving up.

I would stay in the junior program. Everyone is anxious to grow up but you’ll have plenty of time in the future for adult leagues. Try for find some friends to bowl with and if nothing else have competitions amongst your teammates.

Going adult is a one way decision, you can’t go back. Think long and hard about it.

Another thing is I don’t know if you participate in any other high school sports. Each area has it’s own rules but in some areas around here if you participate in any sport for money that eliminates you from playing ANY high school sports not just bowling.

You don't have to bowl only tournaments for scholarship money (at least around here you don't).  There are scholarship leagues in which you can win money.  I drive some kids to the JBTs when they don't have a ride.  Too bad I don't live near you.  I'm thinking of taking my son to some JBTs in Pennsylvania next season.  Where do you live?  Why don't you call the director of the JBT and ask about transportation?  Maybe he can hook you up with someone's parent.
