Least favorite layout?
« on: May 03, 2005, 08:12:39 AM »
What's your least favorite layout...or one that you just can't seem to get to work for you?  For me, its a 5.5" to 6" pin (above or below bridge).  I just can't seem to get this layout to do anything for me...  When I get dry enough lanes for it to turn over, it seems to be really inconsistant...  move the pin an inch closer to my pap... and its a different story...

My friend has his Bully drilled pin under bridge, CG swung out about 1 1/2 inches.  Compared to my Rule drilled pin under ring, mass bias approximately 3 inches right of thumb, his Bully is a good 5-8 boards weaker.  His Bully is a lot smoother and doesn't seem to pick up on its roll very well.

interesting...  I had a pearl beast with pin on the axis and had decent luck with that ball... especially on drier conditions.  I had a coral triton with a 2" pin to PAP and had good luck with that ball as well...  The only ball I have ever liked with the pin above (and between) the fingers was an XL buzzsaw.  It had the cg swung out near my PAP and a huge weight hole.  I guess I just need a little help getting stuff started up... lol

Any pin under the ring drill doesnt work for me. They just dont seem to give me much backend or they seem to be very inconsistent. I usually can never find a line with them, at least in the track because im not a big swinger.

I've tried a number of layouts over the last 3 years; 1 x 1, 4 x 4, pin over bridge w/ cg in and out, pin under bridge, pin negative, cg negative, etc.  About the only on I really didn't like (and it was probably just wrong for the ball) was pin negative, cg positive on a Roto SSPearl.  Everything else was just fine, on the right condition.
