Maybe my last season in leagues
« on: March 21, 2016, 08:41:30 AM »
Been really debating this the past couple of weeks. Just isnt fun for me anymore. Got 2 kids getting ready to play sports and really want to focus on that instead of week in and week out for 36 weeks at the same place. I do bowl travel but thats getting redundant spending a whole weekend day at the bowling alley. Maybe its time to take time off and focus on whats more important, my kids joy in sports. Not saying i wont bowl the occasional tourney every once in a while, but the weekly grind of leagues has finally taken its toll. Maybe the time off will help.

Family comes first and there's nothing more rewarding than spending quality time with your children. I quit the game for many years when my children were born and enjoy the game more than ever after picking in back up.

If you really can't fit both in, then you are definitely doing the right thing.  Your kids are only this age once, you can't go back.

+ a lot; I miss those Saturday mornings when our children played soccer and the father / daughter (we have 3 daughters) events at school. You can always resume bowling, but kids growing up will be gone before you know it.

I never quit my bowling leagues as my seven kids were growing up. My kids all bowled on Saturday mornings so there was no conflict there. I didn't bowl weekend tournaments while they were in youth leagues, but that was okay with me.

When it came to other sports, my wife and I asked them one question, "Are you playing for yourself or are you playing because you want us to watch you play?"

If they are playing for themselves, then they don't care if you miss the occasional game due to league night. If they are playing for you to watch them, then they shouldn't be playing.

In short, you can do both if you really want to. Real conflicts can be handled with a sub for that week.

Freak, you're making the right choice. You only have a small window to spend quality time with your kids while they're young. Miss it and it's gone forever. Your kids will always remember and appreciate you being there.

I basically gave up bowling while my kids were between 6-13. I coached their youth teams and was otherwise was there for their events. I never regretted that time away from bowling. You'll have plenty of time to get back into bowling later in life.

I had a 23 year hiatus from bowling while I started a new career, got married, and had 3 kids.  Came back to bowling about 7 years ago and absolutely love it.  I look forward to my once a week league night, plus I coach youth on Saturdays.

I didn't bowl at all in league this year and didn't miss it one bit. I got back into bowling about 20 years ago after we built a new house. I had so many house projects going on I needed 1 night a week to do something fun. 1 night became 2, then 3, then subbing. I was bowling almost every night plus every other sat couples.  Gradually it became non-enjoyable for me. I cut back to 1 night thinking I would look forward to it, but that never really happened. We dropped couples league this year.  I might bowl again next season, haven't decided yet. If I get the urge I can go on Sunday AM and roll a few games for $1 each. Saving a ton of money, not that it was a factor.

I have a toddler and soon she'll be in sports and/or dance or something... I'm pretty sure I'll take a break from bowling like I did when she was born. My boy is in swim and it conflicted with several tourney dates and I missed few of his events one year. The next year I skipped on tourneys which were on the same days as his swim events.

It's worth it!
