Looking for Suggestions
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:30:40 PM »
I've been talking about upgrading my ball for a couple years now. Before the next fall season starts, was hoping for some input so I might finally make the switch. I currently roll a Twisted Fury or a Track 505T depending on the lanes... Even pull out the 20 year old Gyro in a pinch. haha.

My main ball is the Twisted Fury. I switch to 505T if it is dryer or i forget how to be consistent with the Fury after a couple brews.  So I would be looking for a ball comparable to the Twisted Fury.

Although I roll in multiple leagues, I rarely compete in high skilled leagues or tournaments anymore. So not looking to drop a massive amount.

Any input will help. Thanks guys!

Honestly, new Roto Grip Winner looks like it'll give similar motion on todays oils. Clean down the lane and strong backend.

Winner huge difference to total hook a to a TF.   If the OP is using a TF now for his strike ball in the same environment/lane condition he would have to move much deeper inside to use a Winner.  Is the OP going to be able to do this?  That's the main question and my point.

Would he though? Kind of ignore the diff number on the winner. That Winner coverstock has so much length and ignores the friction for so long that he can play rather close to the dry.

We'll let the OP respond to his comfort zone and bowling stats.  But I do notice this....as a responder to this thread every ball in your 18 - 19 rotation are strong Storm/RG balls.  I don't see anything light to light-medium which on a house shot wet/dry ball using a Twisted Fury which came out in 2007 there is no correlation IMO.  Other than the HyRoad Pearl.

Prospect Rotation ('18-'19 Season):
Code X
No Rules Pearl
Phaze II
Code Black
Marvel Pearl
IQ Tour Solid
Hy-Road Pearl

Not sure I understand what my rotation has to do with a suggested replacement ball for the Twisted Fury. Again, not that it matters but I also bowl sport shot and don't need anything lower than what I have, but my equipment has no bearing on a Twisted Fury replacement lol.

As the OP didn't state his/her stats. just wondering if the OP is rev dominant and bowls on a average light-medium to medium volume house shot why would the OP need anything that equates to stronger equipment?  If a Twisted Fury from 2007 or a 505T what are both lower RG rolly ball motion balls are working now how does the OP move to 2018 stronger oil handling equipment (especially skid-flippy ball motion)?  That's my point.  Folks in general tend to suggest equipment that fits them not the OP or person asking the question.  I maybe wrong but I am looking at it from the OP's point of view not my own.  When the OP can post some bowling stats. and lane condition that they are facing then a more educated guess can be made.

BTW OP is a newer poster just joined so I am sure the OP doesn't know that to make an educated guesstimate more input is needed.

I'm with Scott on this.  The OP doesn't sound like the typical BR member.  Has a 10+ year old ball that may or may not been taken care to the extent some here would have taken care of it.  It is a weaker coverstock compared to today and perhaps weaker still due to maintenance.

The best suggestion is for the OP to find a pro shop they can trust and let them watch them bowl and suggest something for him/her based on the conditions and style.

I enjoy suggesting a ball as much as the next person, but this is a difficult one due to the age of the ball.

My Winner did/does not react like this. Quick response to friction for me. Picked up too early for me for a ball with polish, much like the Danger did. So since it picked up earlier, I took the shine off. More of a mid-lane reacting ball for me. Something to use during transition, or maybe even to start depending what I'm bowling on. Definitely not a weak ball.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience with it. Wood lanes by chance?

No, synthetic. Don't ask me what kind because I don't really know all the types out there. New within the last 10 years or so though. I find them to generally be fairly high friction, at least compared to another house that used to be here and had older synthetics. Brunswick lanes, just not sure which type.

Edit: After looking them up, pretty sure they are Prolane.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the delay, probably shouldn't have posted so close to a holiday weekend ha.

You are correct, I'm no longer the typical BR.com forum kinda guy. I used to be much more up to date, but as my old balls indicate, I moved onto a more social setting. I roll in (3) social leagues, so i guess still a bit more into things than most people...

Due to the older balls, I've fallen into a much more relaxed approach than maybe I should. I roll 15lb balls. Around 13.5 - 14mph. I would call it an average rotation rate on the typical house shot pattern due to lower ball velocity.  Approach slightly angular from left of center to release. Mark is 2 boards gutter side of 3rd mark (right handed)... Consistent arch with a good bite in the last couple feet to add power. Ended last season at 193 and 189 in my two spring leagues.  With 2 more 11 strike games on the resume... I hate the first frame so much...

I plan to stop by the proshop, but don't necessarily trust the newer guys judgement. Ha.  Plus I'm definitely not opposed to the challenge of learning a new ball and bite.
