I’m shocked. Sucks for the other teams who could have won that championship. From reading, folks are saying it’ll remain vacant and not awarded to McKendree.

From what I understand, one of the team either held a card or won enough money in a pro tournament to be considered a pro.  Del Warren is being penalized, because as head coach, he didn't do he due diligence and check out the member before he let him bowl.  It mostly sucks for the teammates who worked their hearts out to win, and now having their hard earned rewards stripped away.

Do you only count as a pro by winning so much money at a pba event vs any other events?  Because there are plenty of college bowlers making money at Nationals and other local usbc and non usbc events.

Only way to be considered a pro is to actually purchase membership. You can bowl as an amateur and win and wont count as a title b/c your an amateur. You can i believe bowl in 3 tourneys as an amateur, cash in 2, or win 1 before they require you to become a full-fledged member before your next tourney. So apparently he must have exceeded those parameters and didn't tell anyone.

Current PBA rule.  This guy was a member from late 2012-2015 so I'm not sure what the PBA rule was then.

13.2.4 Amateur Cash Rule. Beginning in 2015, an amateur may cash in a maximum of two (2) PBA events per season (aggregate PBA Tour, PBA50 Tour, PBA Regional).
a. If an amateur has cashed in two (2) PBA events in a season and wishes to participate in another event, he or she must declare prior to the tournament that if he or she cashes he or she will not be allowed to accept the prize money unless he or she becomes a member.

I think the issue here is that Webber Intl is an NAIA(?) school that offers men scholarship money for bowling in the program. It seems like this player was in violation. I coached collegiate bowling and the coach/appointed advisor has to submit eligibility paperwork once at the beginning of the semester to the school's registrar for eligibility clearance, once at second semester, and once at sectionals if your team is invited. So that's 3 checks per year that was swept under the rug.

They knew what was going on. Plus, has there ever been a bowler in the history of life who has bowled regionals or tour events that didn't let EVERYONE they ever met know that "they've bowled some stops on tour"?
