My home house has been very dry this season. I guess all the bowlers complaints finally got through to the new manager, because the last week there has been a bunch more oil. There is also an OB outside about 8 - no more stand left throw right - you gotta hit the shot.

My teammate last night decided to tell all the better bowlers (hi to you if you're reading this...) that there was something wrong with the lane machine, and no back ends. I disagreed. I said that yes, there was a lot more oil, but there was a shot, you just had to hit it, and stay with the shot.

Well, one guy on another team that my teammate was talking to struggled all night - and ended with a 118 his last game. I shot 269.

Now = was it a bad lane machine, or was it in his head???

a lot of the time, when a person gets it in their head that "its a messed up shot", they will believe there is nothing they can do about it, and do poorly. It happens to me all too often. It is simply in his head.

Generally it is in their head, particularly to the degree you described.

Now in some cases one bowler’s style will match up better than another’s style. I’ve had cases where others on my lane made the lanes look easy and I had little room. I’ve also had it the other way where they were easier for me than them.

Well, we all have bad games, but if he was having this much trouble, by the third game he should have known to go throw something straight, realizing he was going to have to grind it out for 9/.  At least, that's what I'd have done if I couldn't find something to work by then.

I think it was in his head though... if he's convinced he can't bowl in heavier oil, or he refuses to move from the 2nd arrow (or wherever he plays), then it's all on him.  Especially since you shot 269 (way to go! ) Wonder why he didn't try to use your line since it was working - that's what everyone seems to do to me!

I'm seeing this in one league they've changed the oil to heavier...I guess I'm one of those hacks who can't adjust since my 204 average just got rocked with a 470 series.

I see it as a challenge for when I throw the PBA condition this summer, but it's still painful.

Change is hard...especially for bowlers who expect to walk in a do what they have done every sesson before. Experieced bowlers never do such and evalutate the condition everyday and never make an assumption. Bowling today is so different than it used to be... Bowling should be throw a ball, read the reaction and adjust to what you read. But today it is, drill a ball that creates the most mistake room and throw it blindly. When it does not work, the shot has changed and it sucks.

But then what else should we expect? I mean, we buy bowling balls for 200+ and have several. We should have auto strike balls for every condition and eliminate the bowler. This is exactly what bowling today is for the vast majority of bowlers today. They simply expect to buy technology, tune it to the condition they bowl on and never have to learn a skill. I mean why spend $800 if you still have to learn a skill?

Its simply a joke today. And mumzie, you have risen above it and proved that skill still has it days.
