VISE IT Question
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:49:06 AM »
So after a couple of years of using the IT, I came across something i haven't seen yet.

A female customer (smaller thumb) installed the IT system, after drilling the new slug out I noticed that the safety molly parts would not fit into the hole.

My question is are they that important? And if so what do you do in the case of a smaller thumb hole?

Thanks in advance

You have to grind them down to the size of the thumb hole.  I use a bench grinder, but you could probably use a file.

they are very important, unless you want the thumb to separate from the moly!

+1 they are very important. I would just drill the IT with a 1 1/8 hole and install the Molly, the install a pre drilled 1 1/8 slug into the IT. This way you are sure to get a proper lock into the ball

Just so we are clear on the part names:

I'm talking about the SLUG safety molly (male/female) parts that go onto the bottom of the drilled thumb slug.

Anyways STAN's answer seems the most logical (thanks)

You are correct storm, the slug safety moly is what I was talking about.  You will need to trim the diameter of the part that goes into the slug after you drill it out.  I use a dremel tool to turn the part smaller.  You just need to watch the fingers.  Not much room to work with.  This is the only flaw that I can find with this system.
