Title: Losing Leverage
Post by: thewhiz on August 17, 2016, 04:51:38 PM
Can't seem to get myself to finish close to the foul line.  Even if I move up I still am coming up short.  Guess I am afraid to foul.  I am losing a lot of leverage by doing this.  Any suggestions?

Consider trying the one step drill to get use to finishing closer to the foul line till it becomes more natural. Great vids on youtube for reference.

Without seeing it's a little hard to suggest something. It really comes down to practicing and getting comfortable.

I had an issue staying down and projecting the ball. Practiced a few things and now I'm actually closer to the line and have even fouled a couple times in practice where previously I was never that close to the line

I've never been "close" to the line either.  Probably 4 to 6" behind.  Don't know if 4 to 6" gains you anything really...  although it you look at Pros and top amateurs, most end at the foul line...  I'm sure this isn't just coincidence.

Generally, the further past the foul line I am able to go to the higher my score.
During my 244 this year, my high game, I went about 3 inches past the foul liner with my upper body. During my sub 200s I was too cautious about overthrowing the ball went too far back from the foul line and got  7 pins down alot.

Next time try going past the arrows, your scores will sore thru the roof. ;)

If he goes past the arrows, his scores won't be the only thing sore.

I'm wondering if this isn't more of a sliding problem, with the approaches being on the sticky side. I ask because when that happens to me, I find I can't post the shot and I often fall odd to the side, solely because I am not completely my slide. When that happens, I get almost no fingers in the ball and my speed slows down. Sometimes, it's so insignificant, that my only telltale signs are not being able to post the shot and later after bowling, I find my left, or sliding thigh muscle is sore.
