Any fellow ambidextrous bowlers on site?
« on: September 13, 2008, 12:38:15 AM »
Since bowling on a wall doesn't exactly present many challenges, I've found a new one.  When I managed a pro shop, I got free practice, so I'd wear my right arm out and bowl lefty.  Found out I was halfway decent, so after a few years of messing with it, I decided to bowl lefty over the summer.  Averaged 194 with a high series of 640-something and high game of 258.  Anybody else bowl with both hands and if so what is your high with both?

Always wanted to try for a summer league.  Almost did a few years ago.  Joined a start up scratch league but we were over the cap.  If it weren't for another sanctioning another league (already bowling in 3 different associations, and lefty would have been another at full price I think), I'd have bowled lefty to keep the team together.  I don't have any bad habits lefty and Ron Clifton thinks my form might be better lefty.  I'll throw a game now and then and it's usually in the 170-180 range.  That's with a ball not fitted for the correct hand (a lot of forward pitch I might not need and an oval that's obviously the wrong angle), a ball that's really too heavy, and a push away shoe as a slide shoe.  If I drilled up 1-2 14# balls for my left hand and got some decent shoes, I think I could challenge 200 my first year.  With the more repetition and getting better at left side spares, I could be pretty good.

back in 1998 I fell at work and messed up my left knee really good(im a righty).. three surgeries later and maybe one or two more the doc says later in life, Iam dealing with it..I still bowl righty, but have to wear a brace with practically every thing I do know(sucks).. I lost 2 full seasons to that injury, but the second half of season two I decided to bowl left handed(an opportunity came up).. I bowled 68 games(left handed)using my right handed equipment(bought a cheap pair of lefty shoes though) ending average was 189, high series was 721 and my high game was 279.. pretty funny though I thought I threw the ball slow right handed, Iam a rocket compared to lefty...lol...  thats my story and Iam stickin too it..      slashrr69

Good stories . . Everything is better lefthanded, except revs.  My speed is about the same, but my footwork, timing, armswing, everything is better lefthanded.  Just need to work a bit on the revs, but I don't leave a lot of flat stuff lefthanded, just a lot of single pins.  Got to where I could pick up 7's regularly with resin (avoided getting plastic so I could learn to do it right), so my average would have hopped over the 200 mark if the season wouldn't have ended.  Really wanted to do it this year, but I got talked into bowling a scratch league, and will make a lot more money righthanded.  Hopefully next year I can get competitive enough lefthanded to make the switch.  It's about the best way I can find to create new challenges.

I haven't had the opportunity to bowl a league left-handed, but I do pretty well lefty. I have a couple balls drilled up to fit my left hand. My high game is 279 (had a few) and my high series is somewhere in the 750's. My biggest lefty FIGJAM is the day I went in and shot 2091 for 9 left-handed with an old grey AMF Angle.

I'm not that great.  I only average like 180 lefthanded.

Our local city association secretary has 11 300's righthanded and 2 lefthanded.  I've almost caught up righthanded, but I think that even one apiece with each hand is something as special as you can get as far as scoring on a house shot goes.  Takes some talent and hard work.  REALLY wish you could bowl with both hands whenever you wanted.  That would be freakin awesome.  You can do that on tour, anybody knows what rule prevents it for USBC and why?  Lol I'd be unstoppable.  We've got a house here that burns up REALLY quickly.

I'm not a true ambidextrous bowler, but I can bowl both sides very well with just my right hand. I just shot 659 on wednesday night league, and 744 thursday night league (both back-up bowling).

When I was at the Gathering in Winston Salem, many were impressed with my "normal" righty shot...which compared to my back-up bowling isn't sayin too much!

PS...I'm done with the FIGJAM now!

Yes, I bowled 2 seasons ago from both sides due to shoulder issues, as well as for the heck of it back in 2001. My highs on the leftsdie were:

Average:203
Series: 697
Game: 279 (2)

True, but Eddie P as a righty doesn't come close to Rev_o as a lefty!

Wish I could keep up with those scores on the left!  Can't usually make spares.

For me it is hours of spare practice per week with my uncoordinated left hand to start picking up corner pin spares!  I think I missed over 150 7 pins last year.  Made....10?

I've seen many others  with a nice left handed strike ball average about 140 due to spares.  Not like the talents above!

When I have done the above mentioned spare only practice I remember they handed me some checks.  I've had two 299s in practice and a 289 in a non sanctioned tourney.

REgards,
