Losing Weight
« on: December 01, 2013, 09:26:59 PM »
After my wedding in August, my wife and I began losing weight.  Got a Totally Defiant with wedding money the week after the wedding.  After losing about 10 lbs, I started losing hook on the ball, and pushed it off as "taming the cover", and did not correlate the two.  I'm currently down about 20 lbs, have been for a little while.  Haven't had a good reaction from the Totally Defiant either.  This weekend I realized that my finger tips had gotten too small for my inserts.  After replacing the inserts, the Totally Defiant is right back to within a board or two of where it was when I got it, and the ball felt great.

Amazing just 20 lbs can change your Grip size so much, so beware if you plan on dumping some pounds to watch your grip and thumb fit, and get some thumb tape.

I lost 25 pounds (12% body weight) over a couple of years and also noticed a change in the bowling grip---more in the thumb than fingers. After adjusting the thumb inserts, my grip is fine.

I lost almost 20 lbs over the last few months and have noticed a slight change with my thumb.  Nothing really with the fingers.  Making a slight change with the thumb sleeve was all I needed.

Your fingers will get smaller as you lose weight. Might make you release the ball differently

I've lost 90 pounds since march. of course I had to get all my equipment redone.  But the biggest issue is my balance, timing, and release have all changed dramatically.  Needless to say my average has dropped by 10-15 pins but I did go 279/694 the other night so I feel like I'm getting there

Losing that weight will hopefully give you a healthier & longer living effect on your life and lifestyle, which would be a very good thing. I've dropped 35 pounds since I've retired and I feel good not carrying around that added weight. I'm sure it has effected my bowling style, but I keep on plugging along with needed adjustments here and there.  :o

I've lost 40 pounds since I had to stop bowling last year thanksgiving weekend. My middle finger has gone from a 7/8 to a 53/64, my ring from 15/32 to 49/64 and my thumb has gone down a TON. I had 15 pieces of tape in my smallest IT and it was still loose. Needless to say I changed grips in all my balls and made a couple new thumbs. Timing and accuracy are better noe that I have lost the weight

Ring finger - maybe 25/32" instead of 15/32"?  --  JohnP
