Bowling History/life stories ?
« on: February 06, 2005, 09:57:49 PM »
Hi, I was just reading a post on bowling books and was wondering if anyone knows any books on the history/life stories of the game.
I collect bowling books and have loads but the only one I have is the one about the life of Mike Aulby.
Ive seen one about the PBA, but I cant get it in the UK unless I want to pay $30 P&P which is rediculous.
Does anyone know of any or by any chance want to sell any.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks bones,
I tried on amazon but they dont have any on history. I found one on the PBA for the year 2000 at bowling emporium. They want $25 per item with an handling charge of $5 per item to send it to the UK. So I wont be getting that one.
They also had the bowling encyclopaedia but again too expensive for P&P.
I do have over 30 books and they have a bit of how things began but nothing about the players etc.
Oh well I'll try bowling history on Google and see what I get.
Thanks again.

There was an interesting series of posts about the early years of the PBA tour at the pba.com website forums.  Look under PBA Forums/General/Previous PBA Tour Years/Billy Hardwick.  About 25 pages so be prepared for a long read.

It seems that you now have to be registered in order to read the forums there.  That must be new.

"the thread" was on the pba website, but has now moved to the bowlers journal website. It is very long, and very entertaining. Lots of spelling errors and questionable grammer, but lots and lots of fun.

It originally started out about Billy Hardwick.

If you can't find the start of the thread on the pba message board, let me know. When the "trouble" started, I saved it to a file. Shhhh... not supposed to do that.

Go to this site:  http://www.phantomradioshow.com/phantom/p_store.htm

I have one of the last print books by Len Nicholson. he put the book on CD.
You can buy it on his site....

"The Tour would be great... IF you didn't have to bowl"
3 Audio CD Set
22.95 including S/H

I have been asked many times "how" I got started in bowling. We have converted my published book "The Tour would be great... "IF" you didn't have to bowl" to CD-ROM. It's hard to believe that it has been almost 50-years!!
