Excellence vs. Perfection!
« on: July 31, 2004, 09:19:01 PM »
Read in a book it's better to pursue excellence than perfection because there is no such  thing as a perfect anything!

I have seen my husband and others throw what looks like the perfect last ball and end up with a 299 not the 300. Hear a lot of aw's should've been.

Then we've seen folks get 3 or 4 lucky breaks in the middle and end up with the pursued 300.

So, is 300 really perfect? Not in my opinion.

I still long for my first 300!!

My son has bowled several, he'll tell you. This one wasn't that good, that one I earned!!!

My son and I went practicing one time. He was frustrated most his shots were going what we call Jersey, he was working on getting into the pocket the right way. My attitude was, heck if Jersey is working I'll let it go there.

I got a six bagger, all Jersey, his score was lower than mine. He still feels he should be able to come in on the right side all of the time, He doesn't feel the Jersey shot is right.

To me what works is what you go with.
I must admit, the first 2 Jersey were accidental but when I saw it worked, the others were deliberate shots!!!

Excellence will hold you well for those times perfection isn't achievable.
If you strive for perfection, the result will almost always be frustration. If you strive for excellence, and define excellence as the best you can be at all times, you can achieve it.
