Do these have any place?
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:02:10 PM »
Would balls such as my Virtual Energy, T-Road Pearl, QZ1 Red, or Fast be of any use on PBA patterns? I know you're supposed to use balls that hook a little earlier and are smoother downlane. If you could see any of those balls being of any use on the Shark, Scorpion, or Viper, which one and at what surface? The VE and QZ1 have strong drills while the TRP and Fast are around 5" pin to PAP.

I have two VE's that I was pretty successful with(once I pulled my head out of my ***) at a regional on Viper this past weekend.  One was a 50* 4.5" 65*, the other 60* 4.5" 25*.  Surfaces were 4000, and 1000 with polish respectively.

As a guesstimate, I'd take the VE and take the polish off of it. If it is already drilled strong, I'd try something in the 1.500-4.000 grit range (Depending on your speed and revs, but I'd guess that 4.000 is already a huge difference to OOB). A sanded pearl can be pretty versatile - I once had a TPC Player at 1.000 grit with a strong label drill which made it suitable for heavy oil. Not a big hooker, but it worked and was easy to control.

So true. I always keep one in my bag, but they're especially useful on PBA patterns after the heads start go away after a couple games.

Depends on how you drill them. Any Ball can be useful.

I always take my VE for sport shots. If there is head oil, I know it will work.
