I placed this comment on the PBA section regarding Chris Barnes but I felt it might deserve it's own topic.

I believe most of these matches are lost by altitude control!!!! ie loft, bounced, long loft, dropped or phumped in to the foul line.

I'm seeing most of the bad shots that are ending matches are set down SHORT.  And are usually going high and leading to splits.

As a person who suffers from this lately I'm looking for it in watching other peoples bowling.

Walter Ray is such a master of this. Always getting the ball out on to the lane and then adjusting loft to control breakpoint and the heads.
The commentators gushed about this a bit at the US OPEN.

Note that after the match was sealed Chris Barnes threw a turkey near the end.

Not a shot of the turkey were short all slightly out on the lane. Versus the split shots.  Either sort of phlumphed down in to the alley at the foul line or outright slightly dropped.

Hey not only is Chris subject to this but Brian Voss 10 pin near the end of the title match was short and right on the foul line versus his other shots out on the alley.

Back to this Altitude idea.

I believe it is right now the "difference" on the pro tour.

Others who have lost recently with the slam or double dribble in to the lanes.

Randy Pederson in the ToC.  Down in to the lane twice.

Tommy Delutz(in a way) ringing 10 pin had a shorter backswing and was much earlier on the foul line than other balls.  (I shorten under pressure sometimes to, do you).

Pete Weber in win several weeks ago over Delutz, double dribbled one leaving a tough spare he did convert.

I remember when as a little kid I went to watch bowling, if a guy got it level and soundless on the lane I knew he was good.

When I get it out there level all of a sudden I like my own game and have a lot of confidence.

When those slams and bounces start showin up I'm as human as anyone!

Physics takes over, lower speed and usually thru the nose!
