Magnetite cores

I see that Ebonite International is starting to use Magnetite as a core material,  which is supposed to be softer and transfer more energy to the pins.  Some balls that have Magnetite cores (I know this is only a partial list):
- Mission X
- Epidemic
- Oath
- Omen

Anyone using these balls (or others with Magnetite) see any difference in pin carry from balls without Magnetite?  Is there real science behind this or just marketing bs.  I remember years ago there was a lot of talk about Coefficient of Restitution but that has diminished.  I would think if what is being said about Magnetite material is true then it would increase a ball's CoR.

Can anyone answer the OP's question?

I was wondering the same thing.  I use to love the cores with titanium in them (Boss series, Super Beast, etc.).  I wonder if they will ever use titanium again.

+1 I've had a few Columbia balls that utilized the Titanium/Ceramicore nugget and in my opinion I thought those balls would hit and carry off pocket hits like no other on the market. Then again it could be a placebo effect of good marketing info.

As far as the balls using Magnetite, I've watched a few friends throw Mission X's and Oaths and I didn't see any carry difference between those and their IQ Tour and Marvel Pearl for example. So my guess is it's mostly marketing...if there is a difference in hit and carry it's negligible.

The old Crush/R had a soft core that kept the pins low. You could hear the difference when it hit the pins. It wasn't the "core" that was soft. but the inner ball next to the shell. It was yellow and soft enough that you could dent it with your thumb nail.

I heard some bowlers in my area speak of the old Combat Zone the same way in that it kept the pins low and had a different hit and roll than the other Zone balls. Wonder if Brunswick did something special with that particular Zone.

In some other thread, Phil Cardinale (I believe) had said something to the effect that those "nuggets" were used to lower the RG. That they were no longer necessary due to newer techniques for making cores. I think Brunswick (or Ebonite) had a Bismuth core for the same reason. So their hitting better must have been what we wanted to believe (I felt the same if it's any consolation). It really looked like the Boss and the Pulse series balls moved pins around like they were flying matchsticks.

That's just cuz they were some of the first (mid 90's) resin balls and we weren't all that used to see that much pin deck reaction on resin balls for the most part.  lol    :)

I have thrown the Mission X, Oath & Omen. They all carry well for me. I had a huge pocket with the Mission X but the Mission 250K was atleast just as good.

Its the opposite with the outer core with Motiv, its hard plastic/polyester. Pin piercing hardness I believe they they advertise it as.
