Tattoo, go to the Ball Review home page and click Forum at the top of the page. Scroll down to Coverstock Preparation where you will find all kinds of threads that discuss bowling ball maintenance.

This is a topic that we have discussed many times as you will see.

throw the ball 12 games, buy a new one, that one is old now.

just kidding, and I wish I had that much to spare... lol.

i'll wipe after each throw, and with the older stuff, I bath with hot water and soap every few weeks, usually after I can tell it's time.  my experience, the games may vary from ball to ball on exact maintenance schedule, but typically i'll only resurface after I can tell the bath won't do much any more, or the power is lacking that much from the pocket hits.

alcohol will harden the surface of a ball, and decrease it's ability to grab

There are no magic numbers.
If you care, clean after each use with a good bowling-ball specific cleaners (Others may suggest a cheaper alternative; I'd rather use a cleaner meant for the job at hand.) before you put the balls back in your bags. It takes maybe 30 - 45 seconds to clean a ball.

Refresh the surface (not complete resurface) every 12 - 30 games depending on the use and wear and tear (rev rate, friction level of the lane surface, etc.) & the ball reaction.  Re-surface every 30 - 50 games, again depending on the wear and tear level and ball reaction.

Do an oil extraction every 50 - 100 games again depending on the use and rev rate and amount of oil bowled on.

The more rev dominant you are and the amount of oil bowled upon, the greater the frequency and amount of cleaning will  be required. The more speed dominant you are, the less you may need some of this maintenance.

charlest, can't be said better. Every aspect of what you recommended is about the best method anyone could follow.
