After a horrendous week in leagues last week, I was glad to get back to some semblance of decent bowling.  I managed my second best series of the season, a 590 (great for me!!), and was a couple of bad shots away from a REALLY great series.  It helped that we were playing one of the better teams in the league, and also My Aunt was back who is able to tell me what I'm doing wrong.  She showed me right away how I had started "looping" my swing around my back a little bit.  I straightened it out and had a real nice night.  I started off with a 198 in the first game.  I'll say now that I used the Doom all night.  I really love that ball.  Anyhow, in the first game I stood at about 28, and threw the ball over 16-17 and to about 10 at the break.  Two months ago I could NEVER swing the ball at all, now I'm finding that it isn't as difficult as I had thought.  I had a good look most of the game, but the line started to get squirrely towards the end, as three of us were playing a very similar line.  I opened in the ninth with a split (I dont' remember what it was exactly, but I had the same split later, it was the five pin and one other pin to its left, though it wasn't the 7.), or I could have done much better than my 198.

In the second game I changed my line and went back "home."  I was standing inside of 25, and was throwing it down the boards at 10.  I also changed my hand position to the side of the ball to get more of a backend.  I started with the first three, and on the third noticed I kicked out a weak 10 pin, so I moved just one board right to get it a little higher.  From there I had a great game all the way till the tenth, staying clean until then when I left the same split I left the game before on the first shot.  It came up light, and I was unable to pick up the spare, but finished with a 223.

In the third I ran into some trouble, which isn't unusual.  The Doom got a little squirrely in the carrydown, but I didn't have anything else other than my Big One, so I stuck with it.  I also flagged a couple of 10 pin spares, which didn't help, as well as leaving a 5-7 that I didn't pick up.  I finished that game with a 169.  Still higher than my ending average from the fall!    But, I was disappointed in myself.

Overall I'm feeling really good about my game.  It's amazing how much I seem to be picking up about transitions, how to combat them, and other things like hand position and ball speed.  It's so nice to be able to routinely string strikes together.  Sure, I could do it occasionally before, but only if the conditions were just right.  I really think I'm on the road to being a 190-200 average bowler, and I think by the fall I might be in that area.  I just need to tighten up my spare game a little, and I'll do much better.  I have a new spare ball that I just need to get plugged and redrilled and I think it will make a huge difference.  I actually do have one that fits already, but it's 16 pounds, and the span and pitches on it are outdated and it doesn't seem to come off my hand right.  I also have a Tropical Storm on the way for fall leagues.  It could be useful in third game or sport shot situations where my other balls are too much.  Thanks for reading!  You can see the link to my whole season in my sig!

Awesome!  It looks like your average is going back up.  Maybe that dry lane ball will help out for game three.

I just got an all-time high for me (238) with my Tropical Storm this last week so I can vouch for the sweetness of the ball on dry lanes.  And it smells like berries!

If you are getting a lot carrydown I am not sure...  I have seen this guy skid all the way through longer/heavy oil patterns.  It is a shiny pearl ball after all.

With the Tropical Storm it will be useful for me to be able to square up and throw it pretty straight at the pocket on drier conditions, I don't need a huge reaction out of it.  It was a good week with the Doom, though!
