ok, so i had a Hy-road drilled up for me and used it last week, and this week.....

well last week, i thought i was just throwing the ball bad since i hadnt bowled all summer.

well this week i was still comming out of the ball bad.. hanging up in the thumb.......

yet when i would switch out my " thumb " to a different ball, i could come out of the ball just fine... did it with all of the balls i brought...... it was only the Hy-road that i was comming out of the ball bad...

It got me thinking could, the switch grip sleeve, be put in and have it actually change my thumb pitch to a point that i now hang up in the ball?

I talked to my pro-shop guys " apprentice " about it when i was done bowling, and as he said and i had already planned on doing was to bring said ball to my pro-shop guy and have him check it out.

Yes, but one edge or the other of the inner sleeve would show a gap between the inner sleeve and the ball surface (be too low) or extend above the ball surface. Perhaps the span is different on the Hyroad, that could cause your issues as well. A decent pro shop should be able to figure out what is going on. Was the Hyroad drilled at the same shop by the same guy as the other balls?

Yes same Guy has drilled up all of my stuff for the last three years. Its just weird how I can hang up in one ball but all of the others I come out just fine...

ya I agree its probably a span issue unless u see a variation in the sleeve to the slug, could me longer or shorter causing u to hang up...

Just measure spans of both balls to make sure there the same I have the same problem if my stuffs even a 1/16th long

yea, i honestly dont know...... i mean usually i can tell if the span is a bit short or long, but everything feels good, short of hanging up on the ball lol...... But i will have everything checked out thursday afternoon....

The only thing I am dreading is, having to have a new thumb slug drilled up just for this ball.....

but i might just go back to all thumb slugs, for all of my bowling balls so this doesnt happen.....

Once you find what the problem is, then you can decide on a course of action. It seems to me the most logical thing would be to fix the Hyroad, and if the driller made a mistake, he will probably take care of it for you gratis. Switch grip is a good product. Installed properly it does what its supposed to do. It would cost you a lot more to install slugs in all the balls you own.

It is also possible that this ball is either larger or smaller in diameter and it gives you a different feel in your hand. From time to time balls get shipped out that are very different in diameter specs. Generally most balls fall in the same range.

I know a driller that takes in account for the size of the ball, when a smaller one comes in. It is what it is.

cobalt.. well i wouldnt do thumb slugs on my stuff that is already drilled.. just anything new that i get this season....

sounds to me like the pitch was off when he installed the sleeve, or the sleeve is slightly twisted. the orginal hole punched for the outer sleeve may not have been pitched right and you would never see this by looking at the inner to the outer, install the inner have them measure pitches, in each ball, gonna bet there is a difference between them

Also, if it is the span it will be easier to plug and redrill the finger holes.

It could also be that the thumb hole is a little small and a pass with a bevel sander will enlarge it enough. Or you may need a little more bevel. -- JohnP

Chris may have something here. Compare the outer sleeves of the balls and where the notches line up as compared to the center of grip. If the outer sleeve is placed incorrectly or rotated slightly, the pitches and/or oval angle would be off, and you may not see it in depth of the inner sleeve.

Well had my Hy-road checked out and pitches and everything was spot on..... Even had my new Infinite Theory and Tropical Heat Hybrid checked out, along with my Nano and Invasion and all of them had the same pitch n stuff....

So i resorted to beveling out the thumb hole and enlarging it a bit and opening up a bit of the thumb hole... Not sure if it will help or not, but I will find out tomorrow since by the time i got my stuff done, there was no open lanes....

Well I bowled a couple games today with my hy-road, tropical heat hybrid and infinite theory today and didn't haveany issues with hanging up in the ball

Woot go me lol. So I am just going to say that bevelings out the top of my thumb hole more helped out alot
