I think this is one of the "true" problems with bowling. I am very guilty of it. When I was younger and had dreams of making the PBA, I cared about what happened to the PBA. When I had dreams about qualifying for team USA and and actually made it to some state finals, I cared about sport bowling.
But I found out that I could make more money doing my 9-5 than I could bowling so I gave up those dreams and became a tournament bowler. I was more concerned about preventing sandbagging because it affected "me".
Now, I really don't honestly care what happens to the PBA. I watch it on TV, that's about it. Don't care about sport bowling other than nationals because that's the shot they provide there.
Most of the bigger tournaments in the SW region, handicap variety, still put out THS or modified THS so that's what "I" care about.
And if you survey your average league bowler, I think the answer you are going to get is that they are concerned about "their league". What are "they" getting for "their" $20 in dues.
Most bowlers don't care about the youth program, and growing the sport.
We are a selfish society for the most part, and it will be the same in bowling.
That's the challenge USBC faces.
