Markings on Used Balls
« on: November 26, 2009, 04:20:34 AM »
I've recently noticed Used balls FOR SALE with pictures. These pictures clearly show the lines used to layout the ball. Isn't it UNUSUAL for these lines to be scribed into the ball? Isn't it normal to use a marker that can be wiped off? Wouldn't this signal a driller that is not competent?

Just wondering if that's what must bowlers would conclude?

The argument was not if the scribe line is better than the pencil, the argument was that the ball driller who uses the scribe line was some how no good, and didn't know what they were doing.

Some respected posters on here made some remarks about how they feel about drillers who use scribes and their choices of words probably were not the best.

The point is, a good ball driller can do the right job with a thin line, or a scribe line but you have a much better chance at getting the span perfect with a scribe line if you choose to use it.

Whatever you like, is your choice..if you don't like it, don't buy used balls with them on.   Ask for pictures, who doesn't ask for pictures these days anyway?

To be honest with you .. I have never had a driller SCRIBE on my new equipment .. for the wise guys in the pact the answer will be YOU NEVER HAD THE BALL DRILLED BY AN EXPERT .. so be it .. I'll never be a PRO!

I never thought there were so many driller that used the SCRIBED line AND I never knew about the TOUR TRUCK procedure which makes all the sense in the world.

Yes I made the COMPETENT remark and after it was proven to be in error .. withdrew it .. but there are certain people that KEEP RESTATING THE COMMENT. Guess that's the best they can contribute. At any rate I thank you all for the GREAT INFO .. I will definitely ask for pictures if ever I purchase a USED BALL and will without a doubt be sure that my driller NEVER scribes my new bowling balls! When I pick up my drilled balls all I wish to see is required holes and a good fit!

Thank you all once again!
