Fall league Arsenal
« on: July 16, 2013, 10:10:43 AM »
The time is upon when we all must consider what equipment to use to fill out our fall arsenals. Each year around mid July I usually make a trip down to the pro shop and pick a new ball for fall league. After much consideration and some practice the last few weeks, I have to decided to go against my traditions. I am going into the new league season with the same equipment I ended last season with. I will still be heading down to the pro shop but will only be purchasing the time of the pro shop operator for some one on one practice time. I know this will better help me start the season than a new ball. I went down there for practice mid way through last season and that was the best time/money I have ever spent in the sport. so my arsenal is as follows:

Insite Almighty (always been my go-to ball)
Motiv Ascent Solid
Storm Hyroad
Hammer Midnight Vibe

I feel very comfortable with each of these balls and hope that they treat me well this upcoming season.

When you say one on one time with pro shop operator, do you mean coaching? Fortunate that is a possibility. Not sure the local place for me offers that kind of service. I drive an hour each way every other week to get my son coached. And I basically just try to figure it out myself. Of course I've not done a fall league before. Doing a summer league with my son now.

My life story aside, that sounds like a good plan. Hone your game and rely on equipment that's still good. I commend the willpower to resist the call of getting a shiny new ball (or dull ad the case may be)

Is that just because you're rural and that's the closest place? Or do you go the extra mile to get the extra service? I don't really blink an eye to drive somewhere for my son. And if it came down to it I guess I'd do it for myself too. But it's not the closest pro shop by a long shot, just a place I trust now that I know has good certified coaching.

There are other places around. I just prefer the place I go to because I am friends with the shop operator and he does a very good job at half the price of the other places. he knows my game very well also.

My typical ritual is to roll equipment from the previous year into the next.  After a few weeks, I have a better feeling whether the "old" equipment meets requirements or something different could help.  Usually the old is fine, but a new release catches my eye and I swap..

Ive had a goal for several years to buy something new at the beginning of the year and throw it the entire season...but to date temptation has won out...

Well, I am very satisfied with my arsenal. Last night proved my confidence right while subbing for a sport shot league. Rolled 582 with a combination of my midnight vibe and storm hyroad. I believe the pattern was Dead Mans curve.......I witnessed a lot of struggle and disappointment from some of the other bowlers. I saw scores in the low 400's from some decent league bowlers in that house. I had a shot at 200 each game and ended up with 183,198 and 201. spare shots hurt but I thought most of my strike balls were very good. I think I had a total of 21 strikes for the night and quite a few missed spares. very good night for me on a sport condition and my first competitive match since leagues ended in may. I am very excited for this upcoming fall/winter league!
