Keeping up with Bowling Dilemma
« on: February 18, 2015, 05:08:35 AM »
So I have an issue or dilemma and was wondering if anyone has any experience in the matter.

I've stated before that I am active duty and in the Marine Corps. I recently got orders to Drill Instructor School and upon completion will be a Drill Instructor for 3 years after graduation if I pass. As a Drill Instructor, you have a minimum amount of free time if any because your main focus is to train recruits and transform them into Marines.

My question is how to I keep up with bowling while I am completing this assignment. I will have no time to bowl on leagues unless it is in a substitute capacity and bowling tournaments will be difficult because of trying to find time to practice and finding tournaments that I can bowl that won't interfere with training.

If anyone can help with any experience they have would be greatly appreciated.

All I can say is take what is given to you. I work overseas and understand what your saying about no time. Just when you get the time work on your timing and keep up with your release!!!!!!!!!! Don't worry about the scores and why isn't the ball moving like it did. If you don't get to bowl any tournaments then at least you will be able to make a showing when you do.

Congrats on the assignment.  There were many times while I was in the Marine Corps where bowling simply wasn't a possibility.  If you want to maintain your bowling shape and mind, you are better off trying to fit in the best practice sessions you can when you can.  Subbing will be difficult depending on when you get released.  Can't remember if it is before or after dinner.

Another option, put bowling on the back burner.  Take this opportunity to devote yourself completely to what will be an extremely challenging time in your career.  Being a DI will be physically and mentally draining, as well as time consuming, and I am betting you will have very few times where you will want to go practice.

During my time in, I don't remember any DIs that bowled competitively.
