Is your center using the Kegel Prodigy on the lanes? If they are, what is your scoring like? what problems, if any are you having? Were they using it and stopped, if so why and what did they change to?

We are having scoring issues, shot is changing so fast you can't keep up with it, and tons of out of range problems. We are not coating the deck after each run with a solution to help the out of range issue. We are curiuos if this is common or is the product on top of our Laneshield that is creating what we ares seeing.

It seems to me that transition is hard to keep up with Prodigy on synthetic lanes with staggered patterns laid down by newer lane machines which can be set differently for every individual board. Don't know about the out of range problems.

I went and checked out what our laneshield houses are using.  Hope it all makes sense to you.

Performance oil, oil pattern ran to 35’, buffed to 40’.

55 units 10-10, 8 units outside 10 board.

No problems with out of ranges.

Tex, won't see them again until Wed nite.  I'll check then and let you know, better yet, check your messages.

Wazowski, yes, about a 5:1 ratio.  They don't jump from 8 units at 9 and put down 55 on the 10.  He showed me how their pattern was, starts at 8 units on the 3 board, tapers up to 55 units on the 20 board. Our machine can't oil the outside 2 boards.

Not a tough shot, but is still one of the lower scoring houses in town.

at a center in town here with wood lanes it sucked they quit using prodigy and went to brunswick low volume

I've come to hate & love prodigy after bowling on it for a while.

I hate it because when it starts to transition, hold onto your hats! You're moving 1-4 boards A FRAME.

HOWEVER, I think it's safe to say after 7 weeks that IMHO carrydown as we used to know it is virtually extinct.

On offense we always had HORRENDOUS carry down causing even your biggest hook monsters to glide right past the breakpoint. Eventually the heads would dry up & you would have to try to balence getting throught the head, yet have enough bite to move on the carrydown. I don't miss that one bit.

I've found that when I'm bowling on Prodigy I always keep at leat 1 mild piece on hand & have found a little loft can help a lot when the big dry spot in the first 10 feet shows up.

Wood approaches with synthetic lanes.

I'm not sure what kind of synthetic though. I know it's not a Brunswick product, & the owner of the place doesn't remember what the name of the stuff is.

We have seen a lot more pins scooting around on the deck without falling. Being second shift we always saw more of this than the first shift, but I've seen pins slide clear across the deck without falling this season. I know our center strips almost every time they oil too.

I know another wood house that quickly went back to offense after only 2 weeks with the prodigy. They were finding it almost impossible to keep oil on the lanes for more than 2 games. It was like bowling on toast after 15 frames.

The pins sliding around on the deck is what I was referring to when I mentioned out of range problems. This is generally caused by carrydown. We have not had the problem of the lanes geting dry, as long as they flood them to start with. Run an average amount and we did. Talk about pins sliding. I has a two pin end up in the 5 pin spot last week and a couple weeks ago saw a 6 pin slide all the way to the 4 pin spot (that is about 24 inches), now that is sliding. This was in the second game of the first and only shift in our center. The owner is strongly considering giving Brunswisk a chance to show what their oil can do. I hope he does, has to be better than Prodigy. I loved Defense and really was not a big fan of Offense, but both are better than their sum. Prodigy is supposed to be a mix of both. Synthetics allow oil to move around easier than wood to start with, so they don't need any help.

We are using the Prodigy and the single largest factor thus far is temperature.

Days where it is really hot in the building, look out the ball isnt gonna move...if it's chilly, grab something to take care of the carrydown because it's gonna push.

When the building is kept at the nominal 68 degress, the shot holds beautifully.

Our shot is a top hat...8 to 8 with about 50-55 units with maybe 3-5 outside of 8. Yes it's a huge wall but the owner kow tows to the no handed fluffers that want to shoot 700 with a black hammer...so I throw XXL and XXXL and swing them.

Out of ranges have been non-existent this season and we normally have trouble with them due to the age of the lanes, pin decks etc.

I like the stuff...it makes the game interesting again....the knuckle draggers will throw 260 in game 1 and follow it up with a 125 the next game because they cant figure out how to move....it's a hoot.

I have to agree with ya on this one Doug. After I figured out I needed to constantly move, I've really enjoyed both the challenge & the advantage I've had because of it.

I've got a lot of travelling league play in my past & knowing how to move & adjust has always been my strong point. I would say the prodigy is the major reason I've got the highest avg in league right now.

The affects of temperature on this oil may be where we are having part of our troubles. Since we are in Texas and the center never sees 68 degrees we have problems with getting a pattern that will hold up to 5 man teams. So, the center went to running the regular house condition, then laying a christmas tree on top of that to try and get enough oil on the lanes to last more than a game or so. Now the transtions are even faster and more unpredictable. Even in the dead of winter temps in the 70's or 80's are normal here and inside the center will be in the mid to upper 70's, in summer it can get over 80 easily. I bowl travel and have the second highest average and the highest series in the league (790), but what we are seeing is more unpredictable than the PBA patterns. My thoughts personally from here on out is to try to focus more and play the shot like a PBA shot. At least I can use this as practice for regionals since I have struggles there the last couple years. I practices on the C pattern Friday and was more consistent on that shot, was also moving and changing lines to give myself challenges and practice, than on the current Classic shot. The house shot on this stuff is not that bad and have shot fine on it.

Well I'm no PBA member, but it seems to me that a group that tries to act as scientific as Kegel could do a better job than this. It's almost like MicroSoft releasing software before they've worked the bugs out.

There is actually oil that carries down, however it's not the "slick" part of the oil. What they've done is suspended the the "sediment" that creates the slickness in a mineral oil. The mineral oil win then carry down after a while, but the slick stuff is left behind.

Offense oil was supposed to do this, but I promise you, that was never the case. Carrydown used to be HELL in our second shift league. Unless you were rolling by 35-40 feet you would be skidding all the way through the pins.
