Idea??
« on: September 18, 2007, 07:55:39 AM »
I was thinking and I kinda had an idea, but don't know if it wouls work or if someone already thought of this. I have been having a problem with knuckling the ball at times and I was thinking that there could be a piece of tape that if it was made correctly it could fix the problem. If there was a thick piece of tape that would go in deep towards the front tip of my thumb that basically pushed my thumnail against the side of the slug it may force me not to grip the ball. I feel like when my thumb is relaxed, my knuckle naturually hits the side of the slug causing me to knuckle the ball. Hopefully someone understands what I mean, how I described it. It was difficult for me to describe.

So, in other words, something that tapers at the bottom of your thumbhole to match the shape of your thumb, so that both the top and bottom of your thumb are snugly touching something?  My mom used to use a rubber piece designed specifically to do that, I think it was called a ThumbUp.  (For what it's worth, after she took off a summer from bowling to let some tendonitis in her balance arm heal, I suggested she try going without it and see if she still knuckled the ball.  Since she got out of the bad habit over a summer of non-bowling, she doesn't knuckle it anymore)

Try Thumb Straight.  There's a guy here that swears by 'em.  It goes on the front  rather than the back, but it makes your thumb hole contoured to your thumb.

There are probably other places that sell it, but that was the first thing Google found.

The thumb straight is exactly what I was thinking. Another question I was thinking maybe I need less forward pitch as my thumb feels comfortable in the thumb slug until I put my fingers in which makes me seem like it is pushing my knuckle against the slug.

I always thought that the 'norm' was to put your fingers in first and then your thumb?
