Medium Differential Balls....
« on: February 20, 2012, 01:40:13 AM »
I am still loving and occassionally impressing better bowlers using my Icon 2(about 11 years old).  This ball combined light load particle and a low RG (2.52) and medium Diff(.36).

This ball allows me to straigten up in the heads and project straighter to the breakpoint when my higher diff stuff forces me too deep and starts to ping.  This ball after about 10 years still delivers impressive backend from a wider attack angle and often starts carrying again....and let's me hang with big handed monsters when pinging starts.

Some other balls I've encountered with similar specs....Track Spell(best really heavy flat oil ball ever! Allows on to point) Twisted Fury, Twisted Fury solid.

Wish some manufacturer's would come out with more of these lower diff gems.  In the meantime they seem to remain my Secret Weapon against the two handers and big boys....

REgards,

Luckylefty

PS anyone else have a tec 2 ball still hookin strong?  Scotch brite baby!

Two Hand regarding the Tornado....

Is that the solid one or the Pearl one?

I tore up with that Solid one and must say if the oil was light it kept up with my Amazing Demolition Zone(would love to find one of those again) almost board for board in total hook and hit!

Just picked up a pearl Jazz with very similar core specs.

In general I find the pieces with the .25 flare and below except for my reactor based(strong COVER) Tropical Storm to just be smooth and to look tired on any hint of oil in the backs.  (I drill them pretty strong also).  On the other hand the balls with the .35 flare drilled pretty moderately strong for me say 4.5 pin to PAP really can hold on on most sloppy backends and LET me move left(right) for you to keep hitting.

They let me beat up on a lot of better bowlers at times(shhhhhh!).  Who continue to go inside and lose hit!

Dizzy,

On the twisted Fury I have a straighty lefty friend who drilled that thing strong like 3 7/8 pin to PAP.  He shot 823 or so with it!  Since then he has gone to all stronger diff stuff and put weak drillings on them and has never looked the same.  They say drill these things (Twisted Furys) pretty strong.  The only .35 flare balls  I don't drill in the 4 inch pin to pap range are the particle versions with these  mid diff cores in them.  Unless I am bowling on a special dry situation!

Regards,

Luckylefty

PS there are a couple of others in this class I am not mentioning but that is for my own reasons!

Lucky,

The Tornado I bought was the last one before the Cyclones were released.  Mine is Red/Purple/Gold.  I am not 100% positive if it is a pearl or solid.  It looks like a solid though.  I know the ball is not strong.  But, I did a 5 inch pin, cg kicked out 45 degrees and a weight hole in P4 (just to give it a little more help).  On the THS I bowl on currently, I have a really good look with it playing 15 to 10 breakpoint.  If I try to play out in the 8-10 area at the arrows, I have to really hum it down there to keep it right of the headpin or kill some of the revs on it.  Not sure if you saw my video I posted me using it shortly after I punched it up.  I posted it on youtube and then on here shortly thereafter.  Not the greatest video, but good enough to get an idea.  I also left it at box finish.

TwoHand, And Lefty,

The only solid Tornado resin (not particle) was the seagreen (blue/green,not multi-color)solid. It's a crying shame that ball was not continued and only the pearls were maintained. That ball was not a light oil ball. I loved it also Lefty. possibly the last great smooth Ebonite ball for me.
