PBA at South Point for 2012-2013

This will probably be no surprise for anyone.  The PBA already announced that next season will be at South Point in Vegas again.

Hurray!  Ridiculous low number of games to make an eliminator style tv show!  Again!

 

At least the World Championship will be stepladder.

I like the eliminator format, but I'd like to see them reward the two top finishers by making it a 5 man eliminator with the second place finisher given a bye in the first round and the top finisher a bye in the first two rounds.  --  JohnP

The PBA just doesn't "get it" nor does it seem they really want to.   Probably financial constraints have alot to do with it.  It seems their whole mission is to create an alternative style tour that has nothing to do with the PBA's past.    The PBA as we all knew it is in name only now, and the fans just need to learn how to enjoy (as best they can) this new style of professional bowling tournaments.
 
There will be a few tournaments that the "purists"  will enjoy but the majority will be these World Series formats and International style formats.  
 
They are quick, easy and cheaper to run.

 My personal favorite on the "financial constraints" front is the prize funds.  I feel for the PBA and it's near bankruptcy, but anytime someone says the players don't make anything, the response is "we're the richest tour in the world", not "gee, we'll try harder" (or the ever popular "if you were part of the solution you'd have an Xtra Frame subscription").  I've been watching a lot of bowling from the 80's recently and I find it ridiculous that they made 27k for a regular title, and this year the players are only making 10.

According to Jim Dressel, in the Jan. 2012 issue of Bowlers' Journal Int'L,
Carmen Salvino will present a check of $15,000 on April 1 of this year on ESPN to the winner of the tournament named in his honor, the PBA Carmen Salvino Classic. It recalls Carmen's own trip to the winner's circle in 1961, FIFTY-ONE YEARS AGO (that is 51 years) when he won the Empire State Open. He earned $17,000 for winning that tournament.
 
Tell me, what is $17,000 in 1961 dollars worth today?
What should the winner really be getting, to be equivalent to what Carmen won back then?
 
I think Carmen would be too much the gentleman to call the $15K he is awarding in April, "chump change" compared to what he won in 1961, but I wouldn't!!!

The problem is not the World Series itself, it's probably a good thing and should have been done earlier. The problem is that it's half the season.

I would have a hard time gving out that much money considering where the tour used to be.  So unfortunate.

By the way, $17,000 would be around $125,000 in today's money.
