make a ball skid

how do you make a ball skid the first few feet to store energy. Or how to release  the ball so it skids the first few feet .

Normally more ball speed or move your target further down the lane.

Hand wise, add more rotation. If your fingers wind up at 90 degrees, that maximizes the rotation BUT it will also add backend, unless you add more ball speed.

More tricky is to add more tilt, but will change your PAP,most of the time, and change the ball reaction a little besides adding length. Since you're asking this question, I wouldn't try this.

Other options are to move deeper to catch more midlane oil. It and increased ball speed are possibly to 2 more useful options to get more length. Of course, you could change ball if you're not somewhat skilled in the above. If you were, then you wouldn't be asking this question ...

Are you bowling on sandpaper? Does your house oil from the foul line to at least 38 feet? If the answer is No to the first and Yes too the second, then you need lessons.

I am very speed dom. When the heads get dry I rotate my hand to the side of the ball drop my wrist and release the ball causing the ball to float or (skid) in the heads again like fresh oil. then when the ball slows down to the hook phase it has lots of gas turns to the pocket and rolls in  for a strike. just asking to see if there is another way.

to: Schwanstuker we all need lessons I am just asking for a little help from bowlers that have mastered different ways to bowl.

Side roll is good. Moving inward and letting the lane oil help you is best, in my opinion. Another thing is ball surface. Go with less surface, i.e. polish, and polish on top of 2000 or 4000 if the lanes are super dry.

Remember that when the ball finds friction it will travel the direction of its rotation. In the oil there really isn't any friction to speak of, thus delaying hook and roll.

Adding side roll is also my 1st tip, but with some hand and truly fried heads this can easily result in over/under issues, as already mentioned. Another strategy I found handy is to go the other way: moving behind the ball for an end-over-end roll, while reducing hand through a broken-back wrist. This sometimes(!) does the trick for me when I want to keep the overall ball movement down. Not a true skid tactic, but for me the overall result is pretty much the same as forcing the skid phase.

This may sound silly but you can use pledge to get the ball to get down the lane a little farther.  When I had my shop this old timer told me about it...at first I kind of laughed until I tried it and wouldn't you know it works.  After that point I always kept a bottle of it in the shop.

Not too many bowlers can make the physical adjustment but tilt is the best way to get length. Axis rotation more often leads to the ball jumping harder off the spot if thats all that is changed.

Also loft, ball speed increases, and of course just backing off your rev rate work very well to get the ball to skid further.
