Saw some talk about prize lists and ones using a point system. How do you make one? or some examples. We have a 19 team league with 4 man teams using a 7point system  2 for gm 1 for wood.

Here's an example:

20 teams bowling 36 weeks, 7 points available each week.  

Total points:  2520

Prize fund:  $2520

Each point won would be worth $1.

Take the number of teams, multiply by number of weeks, multiply that by number of points, divide by 2.  (Only 7 points available for each pair of lanes)

I used 20 teams since I assume one of your teams bowls blind each week.

Its really one of the fairest ways to payout the prize fund.  The more points you win, the more money you take home.

If the only difference between 1st and 2nd place in the above situation was 1 point, the difference would be $1 in prize money.

Unfortunately this payout system doesn't go over well with the stacked teams and the sandbaggers.  The stacked teams want a top heavy prize fund, the baggers want to be able to lose a few points throughout the year without jeopardizing their averages and the pocketbook.

The point system is bad if you have a wide disparity of talent.  We joined a trios league tree years ago.  They were supposed to have 20+ teams with a large guaranteed first prize.  Once one or two teams dropped out, it started a landslide.  My team didn't know anything about it and stayed.  Turns out there was us and 7 other teams, most of which were beginners.  We didn't have a stacked teams by any means, but we ended up going 50-18.  If that would have been a point league, we would have won most of the prize fund, and the other teams probably wouldn't have come back because they bowled 34 weeks for pocket change.

It was a 4 point system.  Still 50 out of 68 is 73%.  That leaves 27% for the other 7 teams.  Not very appealing.  It was an unusual circumstance, but still shows a potential weakness.
