Important!!!
« on: February 16, 2004, 11:23:58 PM »
Ok, look at my profile to get an idea of my stats.  I would like to buy a good medium oil ball, since i have a light oil and heavy oil ball, but no medium.  Know why that's a problem?  Cause that's what my local house is!!  I don't need a high end ball, but I'm not familiar with good medium-performance equipment, so I need you guys to suggest something good for me.  Please don't recommend anything over $180-200, I'm just a teenager and can't afford that!

I was thinking about an Eraser PP, since they are pretty cheap, but I have no idea about it, since I've never seen anyone use it.  Like I said, something along those lines, mid-performance.

I am also not partial to any company, so it doesn't matter who makes it.

Thanks for any help...

I admit that I buy a lot of bowling balls.  Not to have them but for testing purposes.

Doc, what is it that you're testing them for?

ak57, the Smash/R is not a light oil ball.  I don't see why you can't set it up to handle medium oil just fine.

That said, the Eraser PP looks like a good ball.  Wouldn't mind trying one myself!

My smashr is drilled weak, but not by choice, it has a short pin, so i just use it for light or medium since it only flares a little bit. If i had a good pin out for me, like 3-4", then i wouldn't have made this topic, period.  But our local house is a medium reverse block or something, and the ball goes almost to the pins before it snaps.

I would get lessons, but the sad thing is is that bowling is a laugh here, the only person i could get lessons from is the pro shop owner, and he doesn't even come around more than once a week and besides, he probably wouldn't help much

I've actually been doing better by myself than people "helping" me.  The "coachs" they have at league keep trying to get me to do what they want, not what i'm good at, but their idiots, and so i don't listen to them.

Overall, i'm gonna try redrilling my diesel, stacked pin over ring, i haven't been using it much since it's used, and my hand is getting bigger.  Hopefully that will help.

I dislike our house, it's impossible to judge.  I've seen someone crank a fear factor with really high revs at 13 mph, hooking half of the lane, implying heavy oil, but i've also seen some one hook a tornado at 13 mph with almost no revs or anything, covering 20 boards....i just don't get it sometimes.

No, i don't mean real coaches you hire...in practice before league, a couple people will come around and say stuff to you...of course, they only do that when you miss your mark and get a bad shot.  I'm not talking about people who personally are helping me, just some guy who walks around and say things, without even knowing a persons style or anything.  Typically, they'll tell me stay down after my release, but when i try to do that, it kind of throws me off.  I'm kinda like WRW, you know how he comes up pretty fast after he throws.

Also, everyone who helps me is trying to convert me to a pure stroker, but I'm more of a tweener by nature, and I don't like that.  Of course, now I can play like that, but my A game is being a tweener. You can't argue with that.  I've seen countless people on here saying that people shouldn't force you to do what they want.  And you shouldn't assume that you know the "coach" at my league unless you bowl here.  Like i said, i don't think he's a registered coach.  And how do you know he's "steering me in the right direction" if he doesn't even know my name?!?  Like i said, he doesn't know me, he just goes lane to lane talking about stuff.

Anyways, I went bowling with BK yesterday, and found out my #1 problem....I'm getting backspin on the ball.  Does anyone know what this is the result of, and how to correct it?

You just found out you put backspin on the ball, but you know for a fact that you're naturally a tweener and you bowl on a reverse block????  I'll have to bite my tongue before I say something that will get me banned.

Listen to what Doc and Jabroni are saying and maybe some day you might get to be as good and knowledgable as they are.  Being you are just getting started you have a chance to learn to bowl the right way and not develope a lot of bad habits that will be even harder to correct later on in life.  Good luck to you.

I get backspin with my smashr, but not my diesel.  Do any of you would know a cause of a ball hanging on my hand?  Is my thumbhole not beveled enough or something?  It doesn't come off my thumb very quickly, and it screws everything up.  My diesel is fine though, it comes off smooth and nice.

And wtf does backspin having to do with me knowing how i release the ball, ie stroker, cranker, tweener?  Could you explain that to me exactly?   If you're just gonna be a cynical @ss hole, don't bother replying and posting useless comments.

No, with the diesel, i get like a 45 degree angle of rotation.  It's drilled a bit differently, so that's why i was wondering...It's only my smashr.  Kind of odd...

I also think i might be cupping my wrist too long though, which could cause it.  I'll try and work things out in practice tommorrow.

I'm going to try to keep my wrist flat tommorrow and see what happens.

Yeah, i tend to loft it sometimes, i've been trying to cut down on that.  And I'll work on my follow through.

Thanks King.

I would suggest a Cherry Bomb or BCB, from (you guessed it) Lane 1!!!

Maybe i'm missing something, but i thought that a stroker is someone who uses a free arm release....I don't really do that, even when i throw it up the back, i have to think about it, which messes me up...

And what is crow barring exactly?

Oh, and did you not see the last 5 posts or something?

And i don't know what our house puts....no body in ANY league at all has over a 200 average.........and no we don't just suck.

I wouldn't do that crowbar thing...I'd rather play down and in and take it easy...

Well, in June, I'll be testing my "skill" in our state junior tournament.

I pretty much base my game off of spares.  I'd rather be consistent at shooting spares than get one turkey and a bunch of opens...

Well, at league today, i kept my wrist flat and had no more backspin.  Now, if i could just work on getting the process of cupped to flat down, i'd have my normal amount of revs back.  I also found it easier to aim without the awkward positioning.

That would be so awesome to have revs like tommy or robert and still be accurate, but that's why they're on tour.  I'd love to have a release like Chris Barnes.
