Michael Fagan on Discovery Channel
« on: December 10, 2008, 08:45:27 AM »
PBA star Michael Fagan and his bowling skills will be featured in a segment on the Discovery Channel program, Time Warp which will air on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

The show, which is hosted by MIT scientist and teacher Jeff Lieberman, uses the latest in high-speed photography to take events and slow them down to show exactly how events happen, in a form that your body can actually process.

This past September, Time Warp filmed Fagan bowling and broke down the physical side of the game, examining his release, the way a ball rolls on the lane, how it reacts to oil, the way the ball hits the pins and the deflection necessary to get a strike.

“It was a great experience,” Fagan said. “I jumped at the opportunity to do the show. It was really cool and I hope it comes across that way. I’ve been telling everyone I know to tune in.”

PBA fans can catch Fagan in action on Time Warp on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET and it will again re-air later that night at 12 a.m. ET.

It was cool to see his release in slow motion. However I really wish they would have showed more then they did.

I still can't figure out his release. It looks like he never turns the ball and comes straight up the back. His hand crosses right in front of his face afterwards. And then, on top of it all, he comes out with a very short PAP. But the ball sure looks like he cranked the crap out of it as it's going down the lane.

That is amazing his fingers put the rotation on the ball and instantly go back straight afterwards definetely crazy compared to all the releases I have seen.

Why is it that every documentary on bowling has to some stupid reference to bowling shirts whose style faded away decades ago?  Hell, most PBA bowlers today wear a polo shirt, dress slacks, and very classy looking shoes.  Were they not on the lanes, you'd swear they were heading for the links.  I'd say a small minority of modern bowlers are wearing the retro shirts like those worn in bowling's heyday.

Some stereotypes just can't die.
