Anyone ever bowl at a house that just baffles them?
« on: December 08, 2003, 01:35:44 PM »
Ok, i bowl on three league, Monday, Weds, and Thursday.

OK, Weds, and Thursdays i seem to be bowling fairly well, and throwing the ball good.

Now on Mondays, i am bowling like absolute ass,, and its a way easier shot than the other nites, yet, i have a tough time scoring well.  I mean it baffles me that i can score well on a bit tougher shots.

And i can even score well on a sport shot too,  yet on this easy shot, i am totally lost.

And this is how funky it is,,, my thursday nite league, first yr bowling in this house, and i didnt really like this house.  Well i have 4   700 series and two in one week, yet, on my monday nite league, i have two 700's since 96.

I mean is it just me thinking too much about not being able to score well?  when i score well at other places?

For me to shoot a 600 here, i basically hafta bowl clean the whole nite.  Cuz my carry isnt the greatest, i normally leave a fair amount of single pin spares, 9pins and 4pins.

David,
I'm in a new house this year for my mens league, and I just can't find a real comfortable shot that will carry all the time.....I can get there, and I do have some really nice games, however,....

Yes, it's a wall, but the oil is strange and moves quick,....but anyhow....

I'll be throwing a new ball tonight, ...maybe it's a ball/condition issue I have...we'll see

HELL YEA!!

i am bowling in a league in Canton Ohio, Eastburry lanes.  anyways, they went to this cheaper oil, and the oil itsself is so cheap and inconsistant, that there is no consistant shot at all.  the break down time is no where near consistant.  one week, i can keep my contact zone out all 3 games, other weeks, i have to switch to the riot zone after the 1st game.. its NUTS!!  but i will say that it is making me a better bowler, cause i have to stay on my toes!!  i am thinking about drilling up this core power pearl and see how it does there.  maybe the pearl will compensate for the lack of real oil on these lanes a bit..

goldfish iota,

That is what I have on one of my leagues, the one where I'm stuggling to hold a 201 average.  I was told the center uses cheap oil and you put a 5 man teams on them and your shot doesn't hold out for more than 3-4 frames before you move.  This goes on all night long.  I've NEVER had a night where I didn't have to move less than 3-4 times.

I want to have a 220+ average like everybody else around here, so give me fresh oil.

David, I wonder how much of it is mental?

Oh momma !!  I KNOW it's mental with me now,...don't like the house, stuggling to find a comfortable shot, missing 10 pins and easy spares........

Admitting it is the first step!

I was bowling in three houses, 4 leagues...
Tuesday - 205.
Wednesday - 202.
Thursday - 207.
Monday - 172???????????

It isn't known as the easiest house in town, but it's not a brickyard.
It was a mixed short season league with a whole bunch of beginners throwing plastic all over the place. Sooo...
Once I figured out that it was my practice league (meaning I didn't care about score), and they weren't really "out to get me", I finally figured out that I needed to play inside the track, and open up my own shot. After I did that, I started bowling better. I was at 177 after a few weeks - finished up at a "strong" 190...
Averaged over 225 the last 3 weeks.
So yeah. I've been there. Got it fairly well figured out now, though. Look out for the next 12 weeks!

Right now, I'm shooting in 2 different centers and averaging about the same in both places.  Two seasons ago, I shot in 3 places and was consistent in two but about 15 pins lower in the other house.  I didn't think the shots were that much different, but the lane surface certainly was.  I had a rough time in the badly surfaced place all year and didn't join the season after.

I know how you feel, as it seems my average ends up in the same range (212-220) in whatever center I'm in for league play...not too shabby, but certainly not a huge average by today's standards. But I also think we all have friends who seem to light up one house, and not do nearly as well in another during the same season. Sometimes it's a carry issue, and other times it's just not being able to get your "A" game to work. Don't get frustrated, just try different lines or releases, and it will help you improve as a bowler, even if you're down 10-20 pins from "normal."

Presidio Bowl in San Francisco.

Undisputedly the most bizarre and discouraging house I've ever thrown in.  Maybe Yerba Buena Lanes in SF are right up there though.  Subs who come in and throw at Presidio are told to expect to drop 30 pins from average.
