Mis-Listed ball weights on Ebay
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:31:46 AM »
I am just wondering if I am the only one this has been happening to over the years. A handful of time in the 7 or so years I have been using ebay and purchasing bowling balls, I have bought balls that were listed in my weight of 16 pounds and upon receipt of the balls discovered that they were not 16. One time a used ball listed at 16 pounds turned out to be 14 pounds and the other times it has happened they have been 15 pounders. A few years ago I purchased what was listed as a new track flare bowling ball in 16 pounds only to find out upon receiving it that it was 15...the most recent was just this past week, I bought what was listed as a used 16 pound quantum double helix and it turns out it is only 15 pounds, but I have it in the shop to be drilled anyways because it is a unique ball and should fit a need right now for me.

I can't believe all those listings have been typos...and if not I find it hard to believe that someone in possesion of a ball(assuming it is/was their ball) forgot what weight they had, or just ws too lazy to have it weighed and just guessed. I  just find these situation a little annoying.

Anyone else ever have this happen to them?

Brad

I bought a NIB Forest Green Quantum about 2 months ago, 16#, and came in the "original" box. Took it to the shop, they drilled it and hand it to me and I said man is this light. Took it out to the lanes and was tossing fire with it so I brought it back and guess what....15#. Ball was either not in the original box or the seller just found a Forest Green Quantum box and put the ball in it and tried to pawn it off. I was able to get back the price of the ball from the seller but was out the shipping I spent to have the seller ship the ball to me and I had to ship the ball back on my own dime, plus I lost my drilling charge to the shop....lost about $80 on the deal.

I don't buy that much on eBay but when I have all the sellers I have dealt with have been good.

That said one supposedly respected seller on BBE and here sold me a Sigma Tour that was supposedly to be a 14 but turned out to be 14 lb 14 oz. in other words a light 15.   I asked for the ball to be shipped in the original box and double boxed.  Of course it did NOT come in original box and came in a single old beat up box.  One of the worst transitions I have ever done.  In fact definitely the worst.

How to stop purchasing incorrect weights is to ALWAYS purchase in original box.  Those that don't keep their original boxes are not using their heads if they think they may resell.  Anyone that has purchased here if I was the original buyer and had ball drilled first they always have gotten the original box and double boxed in every sale.  It's how you protect your name and positive feedback.

Infuriates me, I've received a few 15 pound 12 ounce balls listed as 15 from Pro Shops!

They say "technically" still a 15.  I say as a pro shop you could use the word "midweight"!  I always weigh before drilling!

I am fine up to about 15 pounds 5 ounces ......

A lot of those that sell on Ebay use a bathroom scale to weigh their ball. So being off a pound should not be suprising.
