Bad pair of lanes???
« on: January 30, 2005, 03:54:03 AM »
I was just looking over my scores from league this season and noticed that my four lowest series this season have all been on the same pair of lanes.

I haven't really paid much attention to what others are shooting on these two lanes, so I have nothing to compare to but is it...

Coincidence or a bad pair of lanes???

Unless the same is true for the majority of bowlers in the house, it's just a coincidence.  It could be bad lanes, but without knowing what happened with others, you can't say.

Does the house have wood lanes?

In the days of wood lanes you saw the bad or mismatched pair a lot more than you do today.

VT, it may be mental but we all seem to have one pair of lanes in our home house that has our number.   Many feel an end pair is much different from the other lanes.
No doubt there are pairs of lanes that are poorly matched and can throw us a curve.  Today we have multiple balls and its not uncommon to see bowlers use one ball on one lane and another ball on the other lane.  Back when we only had one ball, that mismatch in a pair was a nightmare.

You do bring up an interesting point.  It would be interesting to see what the league ave is on that pair.  Dont know if you can get that info. but if you can, it might make you feel better to know that most everyone else struggles on that pair.

Well, they are not quite the end pair but the are next to the end pair.  I don't know if its mental or not because I hadn't realized it until this afternoon.  Now that I do know about it, I'll probably continue to bowl bad on this pair.

I'll talk to the league secretary tomorrow night to see if I can take a look at the numbers for that lane this season.  It would be interesting to see.

No, these are synthetic lanes.

There can be times that a pair of lanes plays badly for everyone for any number of reasons: some of them could be pinspotting issues, other times can be the gutter decks, side wall action- the list could go on and on. It would be interesting to see how the overal scores on that pair have been through the year in your league, and if there are certain people that are bowling well on that pair, what they are doing different than you are doing (equipment, hand release, ball speed, angle of attack).

I had a pair in my Monday league where I've been hot and cold the past month- I happened to cross that pair in my city tournament today and I shot 713....so go figure.

I bowled a tourney yesterday at a local house I haven't bowled in for a couple of years. Most of the higher average bowlers were down on 3/4 and 5/6. We were on 9/10. Awful pair. The two lanes played totally different - that in itself is no big deal. But lane 9 - the shot moved around constantly. Sometimes it would be there for 2 frames in a row - once, even 3 - but usually, one frame, then it would move. Awfully hard to hit anything.
I was talking with some friends that bowled on the lower pairs - they were laughing like - yeah, right - that pair can't be that bad - we had 2 300s and an 800 on our pair...
We moved for the second set - happened to trade places with a team that was on 3/4 the first set. You should have heard them whine. One team stated that in the middle of the first game, they gave up - because that pair was so impossible.
