Last time everybody cried because I gave up...Now this time everybodys mad I brought another ball with me and crushed them at their own game ?
Everybody said I should learn from it ?..I did..I brought another ball and shot an honor score !
I just think that it toped the cake that the league president asked not to sub in the league anymore because the league was not there to be competitive !
I almost shot 1000 with handicap...ROFL...Guess the bad set last time paid off in handicap !
I love it

302efi,
The reason many posters ragged on you was twofold,
a) You complained about not being able to play your "A" game because of the lesser bowlers on the lanes and wouldn't try to adapt your game to it.
b) You dissed the bowlers in the league for not being good enough.
I am glad that you listened to our members and decided to adapt to the cicumstances handed you in the league and found a way to score well on the condition.
I don't think you should diss the league's bowlers, or the league, which it appears you are still doing. It is a "fun" league, you sound like a competitive league type bowler. It is not "fun" when a hi ave. bowler comes in as a sub, shoots high game scores and then rubs it in everyone's faces. You should let the "fun" bowlers enjoy their league nite out and stick with the Competitive Leagues for yourself. JMHO
BTW, very nice set.

Good shootin'. I think it's funny they asked you not to sub again, given that subs don't bowl unless someone in the league asks them to. And if you're shooting 1000 with handicap, I can't believe they're not asking you to sub every week. I'd put you on my team, if you could stand the shame of bowling with someone with my average.
Also, The Thing Lives ROCKS! I love mine.

Thanks for some of the thumbs-ups

Last time I was completely off guard, having not bowled in a mixed league in a few years. Like I said in my other topic, I usually bring 1 ball to league and my Tour Ultras, nothing else....Well last night, I night Thing Live with 320 scotch bright on my spinner before I left...So I had to dig out my 3 ball roller for the first time in a while.
First game using my Epic Battle..278 (fast 8 ***4-7**)
Then I changed to the Thing Lives...268 (missed a 4 pin LOL)
Stayed with the TL for the last game...259 (Couple spares and I chopped in the 10th)
The Thing Lives at this low of grit ignored any kind of carry down and totally crushed the rack time after time.
I'm assuming the league president had a couple complaints about that high of a series (with handicap. I think
) from the other team and that I sandbagged the last time...not really sure.
He asked me very nicely (sorta): "Congrats on your nice score, but hese people are here to have a good time, their not really that competitive to be shooting such high scores given your handicap from before. I know you bowl regular in other money leagues around here, so go ahead and do that...No need to beat-up on these people"
As for the people still acting like a whine bag...sorry..Its Friday the 13th, have a good day
RocknBowlGirl - Did I sub against your team last night ?!..lol

I'm fairly certain not. We liked our opponents. 2 of the members on the other team I bowled with in the winter league. Great guys AND great bowlers. One of them bowled a 246 scratch game last night giving him a 276 with handicap. We, the opponents, were very happy for him and congratulated him on a job well done. I think they call that sportsmanship. In spite of his valiant effort in the last game however, it wasn’t quite enough to beat us overall. Our team still took 5 out of 7 points. We pretty much crushed our opponents. Last week we took 7 out of 7. Out of 32 teams we're now in either 1st or 2nd place. So, the answer to your question is no, you did not bowl against us. If you had, you would have lost.
I think you're kidding yourself if you really think the reason why the president of the league asked you not to come back was due to your high scores. I guess someone with a narcissistic personality such as yours would believe that. From everything you’ve written, I think it is more likely that you're such jerk and such a bore to be around that you ruin the evening for everyone around you.
To be honest, I didnt really go to sub last night to help the team or be a team bowler...I went to beat-up on some mixed-leaguers.
As for your team, congrats on taking almost all the points..but that just goes to show that your team must have a TON of handicap if the last bowler shot that score and still didnt win....but then again, thats what mixed leagues are for, the handiap bowlers, right ?
So in reality, if I would have been subbing againt you last night, you may have beat the "team" I was on, but you wouldnt have beat me...Who bowls for "teams" anymore ?...Welcome to the year 2006
Say what you will, I pretty much qouted what the league president said, no reason to lie about it. Take it how you want, I was there & heard it, you wasnt.

Actually I was pretty quiet when I bowled last night, I sit and wait to bowl, thats what I'm there for, to bowl. Not really to much talking from me last night, as its not a regular night for me, I'm not to fond of the people.
Most of the league just worries about beer or outside smoking holding up the game...Welcome to a mixed-league

Too funny!
I join a mixed league (3 person) last night and to my surprise, my slumping average was 2nd high at 185!!!! Needless to say, the anchor on the opposing team had a 'posted' average of 161. After looking at him throw the ball during warmups, I say to myself.... 'SELF, THAT 161 AVG. IS BULL!!!' Sure enough, he throws dang near a 600 series against us! Hold on, here's the best part.... after we finish bowling, we chatted and he's not only talking about how he shot his 8th 300 last week in another league, but also displays a ring plus 800 series ring along with how he averages 220 in the other 'competitive league'!
WTF!!!?

Bob, he's not sandbagging; he's merely distracted by the beer and general conviviality, not to mention the hot chicks in the league. [now where is that  emoticon when I need it?)

I just went up against one of those this week. Funny stuff. Unfortunately, you can't control what cheap crap some other person tries to pull and just try your best to get up to the scratch level I guess.

Yeah, that's just wrong. True sandbaggers suck. One of the leagues I bowl on has a "10-Pin Drop Rule" so while your average may go down, your handicap can never go up by more than 10 pins from the time you entered. Sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not, but it definitely keeps the sandbaggers at bay.
It stinks because my team has actually been bowling at or a bit above our average each week, but we can't overpower these people who bowl way above their average every week against us. We have to just keep reminding ourselves that we didn't get into it to win money or anything... After all, the original goal was to have something to do for fun and get better at bowling along the way.
Unfortunately, when you witness some of the cheap stuff people will do to win a little more prize money it is kind of pathetic.

Here's the thing though, doesn't it all kinda wash out in the end? I mean yeah, someone might sandbag at that moment, but eventually the scores average out. Isn't sandbagging something that is a short term problem? Eventually the overall scores catch up with them and balance out, don't they?
Not necessarily. Some folks are amazing when it comes to "average management."

what also gets my 'goat' about my aforementioned situation, this league, though you win money and awards at season end, there aren't any 'brackets, pots, etc' going on! What have you to gain by 'bagging'?
Some folks need a Check up from the neck up!

Not really, the better ones at the "practice" will bowl just well enough to win the games. How often have you seen that 180 ave. bowler that you know his form is too good for him to have that ave. go out the door with 4 or five strikes to shoot a 220 to win a close game and then come back with a 160 to win another close game. Think about it, they are out there. Not saying it's true in all cases, but there are some...

Must be nice. My "fun" "mixed" league has 28 teams of 5 bowlers. Of the 163 roster members, 51 are carrying an average of 190 or better.
Also, this "fun" league voted to give first place team $4500 and the bottom 5 teams get $100 each ($20 per person). League fees are $20 a week.

Hey, I'll never turn down free bowling.
This is why I tried to get our league to ban subs. No one, IMO, should bowl and get to establish a National average for free (not counting the sanction card).
We never use subs on our teams. Subs are not mentally or monetarily invested in the team or league. You have no idea what they are going to do, if they are there to experiment with equipment or hand releases. ARe they practising some funky suggestion on their technique? No thanks.

You have the wrong people subbing, then. You should know and trust the people you ask to help your team. If you don't, caveat emptor. Besides, there's no guarantee that real teammates wouldn't do the same thing, especially "extra" teammates that are little more than subs anyway.
I wouldn't want to bowl with someone like that either, but in my experience, subs do commit to a team. Someone with a reputation for not taking their job seriously, for abusing the trust extended to them as a temporary member of the team won't be subbing long. That kind of problem is self-correcting.
Also in my experience, most subs bowl in other sanctioned leagues and hardly need their subbing to establish a national average. While their sub average may happen to be the highest average they have (and thus becomes their "book" average), they hardly need it to have an average at all.
